Hey All - I know there are plenty of high schools that offer surfing as a subject, but does anybody know of a high school that offers kitesurfing as a subject?
If such a school were to exist, what do you think would be some subject areas that could be integrated/ taught within the context of kitesurfing?
Currently I am thinking:
IKO qualification
Assistant instructor, so competent riders can become peer coaches/ ambassadors
Design and technology
Media/ visual arts
PE
Health
Meteorology
First Aid
Community service component
Environmental Science
Physics
My purpose for asking is that I am putting forward a proposal to the principal (my boss) at my school tomorrow, and was just doing a last minute check to see if there was a currently operating school-based kitesurfing course I might take a few ideas from!
Cheers
Chris
Thanks Trigger and Ozone, AKWA, dont panic, I'm only looking to recruit between 5 -10 students in the first year, and I'm all the way over in NZ! Also, students of my course will be well briefed in how to give way correctly so I don't think you need to worry about being tangled with them any time soon.
Great news - the proposal was accepted!
Now on with making the plan come together...
Stoked for my school :)
Will be able to hang a "Dean of kitesurfing" plaque next to my IKO kiteboarding diploma, what a hoot!
I never realised kiters had been to school
Is the aim to educate kiters or to turn the educated into kiters ?
How about guest lectures from KOTP and Mark_australia on any subject of their choosing ??
Pls Pls pls teach them that
- a kite has a BRIDLE like a horse, not a BRIDAL as in wedding party
- we ride BOARDS, but when there is no wind we get BORED waiting.
and yes - school is the right place to teach basic spelling and grammar.
