For a whole swag of very good reasons the AKSA board has resolved to establish a 'Hall of Fame' for kiters who use their passion & skill of our great sport to deliver 'significant benefit to the wider community'.
Prompted by a recent rescue; of what would almost certainly have been a fatality from a jetski incident on Port Phillip Bay; AKSA is about to announce an ongoing program where we offer significant rewards and recognition to kiters we consider "Heroes".
The finer details will be released shortly but in the meantime we would like everyone who knows anyone who is likely to have a worthy "Hero Story" of their own to begin putting their tale together. Submissions will be accepted through any state KSA. Awards in this first year of the program will be retrospective - right back to the dark ages when kiting didnt even exist. From 2009/10 onwards they will be annual, based on the current season.
Once the first round of awards are announced; at the forthcoming AKSA AGM; the AKSA website & all state websites will include a designated menu item headed "HERO STORIES" where the full story of each incident will be recorded for all to appreciate.
Now there is something for the press once it has been put together. I bet kiters have saved more people than they have harmed them. But do we want more people in the world?
This one nails it -

AKSA probably wont be rating stories to find a 'best hero of them all' award but for mine Matt Kalajzick will always be my hero. ![]()
Awesome story that one.

If I had 5 votes to give I would give them all to Mark. This tale still brings a tear to the eye of another father of 2 boys.
