This news seems to be slipping by without any comment.

Besides Andy winning PKRA I think this is the biggest news issue in Australian kiting this year.

Me will be renewing before Dec 31 for sure.

I'm more interested in learning about the accidents that led to the increase in fees.

Considering kiters don't seem to be able to fart without a post being put on on here, I'm surprised I know nothing about them. Or did I miss some posts?

Believe it or not there's not that many kiters that post here.

It's probably not in the interests of the sport to publicise accidents anyway. Some people who read this forum aren't here because they like the sport.

After 31 Dec 2010, the new subscription fee will be $650.

That would cost less to insure a boat. It's good that there are alternatives.

If it goes to that price watch how many will renew next year . Can one get his own insurence (public liabilty cover) and with a little joining fee get aksa membership so you could still be alowed to play in comp stuff .

Not unless there is another 6 claims, hope not!

Truth is the figure needed to pay the insurance prem is based on amount of members X $65, this means that our main objective this year is to provide insurance, and there's proof that we need it!. Some of the increase after Jan 1st will be given back to your local KSA.

Hope this helps

Has there ever been anyone that gets the story so completely wrong so often.
100% increase on $65 = $130
200% increase on $65 = $195
But Hey - the date is right.
You will be paying from $130 to $200 for a 12 month subscription to AKSA and your state KSA from 1/1/2011.
But at least it is for a full 12 mths.

Did you not read it?

100% or 200% increase on the annual fee.

Double $65 is $130 = 100% increase.

The premium went up tenfold but that was only a small part of the annual fee.

Say it was $6.50 the insurance part of the fee is now increase is $65 (actual cost this year was 6.71 per member according to AKSA membership report.)

Believe it or not the tags that everyone hold so dear cost 25% as much as the insurance!!

Ask again when you can get equivalent cover (up to $20M ; 24/7 ; kiter to kiter etc).
I dont think so.
How much does it cost to join your local 'any-other' club. One local club I enquired at charges $385 for a social membership. All that gives you is permission to go there and spend money over the bar. Maybe able to have a shower too?

And how do you get on if next year you are the one facing a $2000000 claim all on your lonesome. If you work 2 jobs & never buy a house you may get it paid off before you die.

Puppet. AKSA mentioned it would be a 100% to 200% additional on the premium and not the membership cost. Seeing the states KSA receive almost half of the membership money to assist in running the state branches and a proportion of the money is retained by AKSA to run the national branch, then only a small proportion of the fee ($6 if I can remember from previous posts raised a few years ago). Will be affected by the increase in costs. But I stand to be corrected.

Correct. 20 million is the standard cover, across all industries. 20 million is only covering registered events and not the recreational kiter. Standard coverage is only 10 million. I have requested AKSA to increase standard coverage to 20 million for all kiters. This hasn't occurred as of yet. Hopefully this change is coming shortly.

My 2 cents

An issue raised in the past & one i think should be on AKSA's agenda if fees are to be increased is at least the option to have personal injury & death cover included as part of your membership.

To WAKSA we need clubrooms; there's a nice piece of vacant land next to the Swannie surf club but reallly it should be up by Brighton the bar would do a roaring trade from kiters finishing a down winder

Skate Australia is the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) recognized by the Federal Governments, Australian Sports Commission (ASC) as the peak body administering the growth and development of six individual skating sports within Australia.
The ASC is the Australian Government agency that supports and invests in sport at all levels in Australia. The ASC works closely with NSO's to develop sport from community participation to high performance level.

The ASC supports a wide range of programs designed to develop sporting excellence and increase participation and achievement by all Australians. The notion of both social and elite pathways for athletes, coaches, officials and administrators lies at the heart of a sport's effective planning processes.

The ASC directs it's funding and services to ensure these pathways are in place and are effective in delivering increased participation and continued international sporting success.

For the financial year 2009-2010 Skate Australia will receive $186,000 in funding from the ASC of which $100,000 is specifically allocated for the development of skateboarding.

The ASC offers two types of funding to NSO's

Sports Grants - which support the high performance and/or sport development activities of the organization, as indicated in the organisation's strategic and operational plans
Specific ASC Program Grants - which relate to specific projects and initiatives aimed at developing specific priorities including coaching, officiating, talent identification, indigenous sport, sport for people with disability and sport for women.
Funding allocations are reviewed annually in light of the organisation's performance against objectives and performance measures listed in the organisation's annual operational plan, as well as compliance with the ASC requirements.

The Australian Sport Commission's focus is sport, not recreation or sub cultures or pastimes. The ASC only supports that component of the activity that is "sport" and can be developed.

The ASC do not fund individuals, corporations, major events or facilities, but support NSO programs that they believe have the capacity to achieve the outcomes that benefit the Australian sporting system.

There is no doubt over time and as resources become available Skateboarding Australia will continue to increase outcomes for the entire skateboarding community.

Has anyone here ever made a claim? Easy process??

So IF I sign up now what do I get?

Pretty sure that there would be a confidentiality agreement once a claim is initiated. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you sign up now you get PL Insurance and become a member of your state association or local club.

Something stinks. ^^^
As usual, WAKSA/AKSA are attempting to use fear as a means to boost numbers this year.
JOIN NOW or you will cop a 200% price hike on 1 Jan 2011 ...
that's their pet threat.
lol.
It's an odd strategy to encourage new membership.

In what is essentially a WAKSA pimp-thread, abusing forum-members only makes the association look more try-hard and desperate.

Ray

who's the try hard and desperate on this forum?

It seems to me that WS is desperate in his attempts to mislead and confuse readers. Desperate in his attempts to further his oh so boring and repetitive anti Association diatribe.

For once WS, I agree. WAKSA is somewhat "desperate". Desperate to try and bring new and better events to our members (this new thing called the Wedge Wave Comp we did a couple of weeks back; getting the inaugural Lighthouse to Leighton event up & running to cite just a couple.) Pehaps the 300 or so crew who come up to Kitestock each year don't like what WAKSA does either?

We have over 400 members already this year - perhaps those 400 members have recognised that WAKSA has been trying hard to do new things - and
those members recognise the work that has been, and will continue to be done by the Association to improve the sport and it's profile in WA. Perhaps those 400 recognise the importance of something more than just events also - or perhaps they too are tired or bored of his message?

As for his latest rant that fees will be $650, he indicates that once again, for some one who doesn't like WAKSA, he shows all too much interest in what the Association does. For someone who has no knowledge of what's going on at a state or national level, it's a somewhat confused and desperate message don't you think?
