Hi guys
Does anyone have a way of accurately predicting the actual wind speed down on Botany Bay based Seabreeze graphs? I would have thought that the Sydney airport reading would be most accurate. However, it has now happened a couple of times (including yesterday, unfortunately) where I drive down to the beach super amped and ready to go, based on the live feed, only to find it 6-7kts lighter on the beach than the reading given by seabreeze. ![]()
All formulas, scientific equations or voodoo welcomed. ![]()
I think the wind meter is at the end of the runway. Dedust about 5 knots from the reported value. Don't forget the tide can affect the currents as well. Close to the beach is always less too.
You are lucky to have both graphs for Botany from Sydney Airport and Kurnell. Northern beaches wind can't be measured by North Head graph as it's completely irrelevant.
Usually if it's dead E, wind can't be more than 15 knots. If it's NE, Kurnell will be always 5-8 knots stronger than Monterey/Ramsgate.
Dolls Point can be good if tide is going out, but you may get some problems trying to bodydrag to your board.
Southerlies are much stronger this summer, don't know why.
I generally rely on the Little bay meter. Its not as optimistic as the airport.
