In the process of buying new kites and wondering if anyone has ever laid out different brand kites on top of each other or actually measured any kites to see if real size is what they claim it to be.
Just wondering if any companies are labelling kites as 12 mtr etc when they measure 12.5/13 mtr. Some kites seem way more powerful than a different brand in the same size is all im saying.....
Just need to remember my maths to work out sq mtrs with an arc.......

yep and they are all over the place. whats more different designs yeild more or less power per sq meter.

These days you just have to use the number on the kite as a guide!.....

whats most important is the wind range of that kite for your weight!

... yep, done this recently. We compared 15m Naish Fly, 16m Dyno, 17m Edge and 18m Dyno.

The 15m "looked" surprizingly big for a "15m" and the differences are less than you can see by mere laying them on the ground but as Plummet says, it more important the range it can get you. If you could get a 12m to cover the range of an 18m then I'd have a 12m

this one is 18m on the bottom: 16m then 17m then 15m on top

this one is same as above

again, bottom up 18m, 16m, 17m, 15m

16m front, 17m, 18m and 15m at back, just showing how much bigger in the middle the Naish is and apparently only a 15m

same as above

same again as above

cheers for now,

Robbie

...No... the opposite... disregard the number on the kite, because it in most brands serves only one purpuse.........
...yes.... it is marketing....

I choose to leave this can of worms closed as of now and will take on board all the comments from previous very helpful post.

the numbers are bull bull5hit. when thinking up a good number it is all about what sells which is why so many kites are actually bigger than stated so they can be called powerful etc
