This rash is erythema multiforme. It's an immune mediated rash, usually in response to viral infection, but can be in response to various medications.

I notice the girl has been on antibiotics, and has taken a couple of weeks to improve. Well, guess what, the antibiotics didn't fix it, it got better by itself.

I think the fact it came on after swimming is a coincidence

Not that I really want to swim at Altona

Seems the urchins are getting worse too eh?

Now, if we could work out something to do with polluted and yet nutrient-rich water, other than tipping it in our waterways ... perhaps solve several problems at once ...

It seems the media love picking on the Altona Beach. If they looked objectively at the EPA water quality data they will note the Altona Beach has NOT hit any of the EPA trigger events for water quality (Enterococci org/100mL) this summer.

The levels per week in Altona this summer were <10, 86, 290 and 390 consecutively. Compare that with the following:

Beaumaris: 63, 300, 3700 and 500 (trigger hit twice)
Elwood: <10, 910, 1600, 2200 (trigger hit three times)
Frankston: <10, 250, 960 and 63 (tigger hit once)
Middle Park: <10, 800, 20, 7700 (trigger hit twice)
Port Melbourne: <10, 860, 110 and 16000 (trigger hit twice)
St Kilda: <10, 960, 570 and 550 (trigger hit three times)
Williamstown: 52, 900, 130 and 1500 (trigger hit twice)

We have a beautiful beach in Altona. We all know that no matter what the media write about us.

See http://www.epa.vic.gov.au/beachreport/default.aspx if you want the data for yourself.

I've decided to give up kitesurfing entirely...

...and take up fishing.

At Brighton there are dead fish scattered about floating at the surface of the water.

Coming from someone in queensland that isn't saying much. I spent 6 months up there and the only thing that comes to mind was a saying:

What do you call a hot woman in QLD?

A backpacker!

That aside, there is a reason that Melbourne is leading the rest of Aus as the most liveable city in the rankings. Weather is great, its just crap for tourists who don't know how it works. I love the weather here, kiteable all year around and most of the other cities I've been to have been dirtier with crappy public transport.

Most people I know who moved to melbourne never leave, that should tell you something about the place.
