It's had been announced that the man himself Andre Phillip, has joined Tona as a co-owner and a rider for the brand. This in my opinion is a massive move considering he has be soley with Cabrinha for many many years!!!

Congrats to Dre and all the best for the future buddy.

Hey Guys,

Thanks much for the props. Don't worry the TONA board prices won't go up! :)

I saw that someone made a write up in the news section of Seabreeze. Thanks for that but I just wanted to clear up a rumor that was mentioned in the writeup. "In fact he still IS with Cabrinha, just for kites though."

The truth is that I stepped away from Cabrinha, I won't be flying their kites anymore. I actually tried to carry on our relationship because we've been together for so long and I thought that the right thing for me to do was to carry on flying Cabrinha kites and team up with Tona for boards. Cabrinha wasn't happy with the idea of me branching out and growing something that I believe in, something for the future. So they proposed that they only want 100% from me or nothing at all. So I chose to leave.

I'm actually even more happy with the kites I'm flying now tho :)
I also could not be more happy being a part of the Tona family. We have and amazing team of people working with the brand who share the same visions so I believe lots of good things will come from it. :)

That seems pretty naive of Cabrinha, good luck with your boards, what kites are you flying now?

One of the biggest and most surprising moves in kite history I think... Much like in skateboard history when the whole team left World Industries and started their own company "Girl Skateboards", they went from having everything to having nothing, but in the end they grew their own brand and became bigger than everyone...
Big things to come I think .

Good luck with everything Dre.

I hear he will be flying the 9m cloud.

No struts allows for better wakestyle pop, better balance on the rails and an extra boast off the kickers.

Im supprised he has moved too but I think tona and the pop are the way. price, construction and looks are great along with a solid board. i think the 09 was the last custom i liked for kiting even though i ripped inserts in two of them. as for the swithblades I still love my 2010s even though im now flying c's. So big props on all the great gear you helped produce at cabrinha and I cant wait to see the snaps of you on tona!!!

Best of luck dude!

Thanks for the props Rowdy, It's definitely exciting times!! I couldn't be more happy or feel more comfortable where I am now!! Tona is a bit of an unconventional kite brand and it's cool that all of our owners kite and have passions for all of the board sports. I believe all of those passions will really influence the things that we create.

Heh Dre,

Sounds cool that you have joined Tona. I can't wait to see footage of you on the new gear and see you shaking things up a bit. Hopefully your new sponsors could see it in their wisdom to send you to Aussie on a "promo tour" towards the end of this year. Starting at one of the best places for a mixture of great flatwater and wave spots here on the Gold Coast, Queensland and concluding through to Western Australia. Our season for the below Tropic of Capricorn starts in September running through to March but you probably know that. I would be happy to connect you with the local crew around here on the Gold Coast if need be and if so, just Post Message me. Cheers and Good Luck on the exciting new venture Dre

SS lost a couple of good/well-known riders recently. If that's the case, Dre will be a massive gain for SS.

Love the look of the Tona Pop, nice price as well.

It has a narrower nose compared to other freestyle boards. How does this affect the ride?

SS has gone from having no one to having a better team than before and a better team than nearly any other brand. Sam Light, Dre and Karolina Winkowska make a pretty sick team I reckon.
