I've noticed a correlation between certain brands of kites attracting certain types of riders in the same way that hoons are attracted to specific models of car.
For example, the majority of kite dickheads who perform close to the beach to try impress people seem to ride Fuel's or RPM's. I don't notice the same issue with Torch , C4 or Vegas riders which fall into the same (or similar) C shaped unhooked category. On the other side of the fence, as much as we joke about cab's and tree's, the majority of guilty parties are beginners who don't know any better. I.e. I don't often see Cab riders showing off close to shore and given the pure volume of cab's vs slingshots, the percentage should be higher if there was no correlation.
Any thoughts? Time to start crushing kites for the offenders? ![]()
at my local the less experienced tend to ride switch. probably because they are cheaper to buy. thats not allways the case. but i see it as a trend.
Hope your not calling me a d&$@ head that would not be very nice
By the way I ride Rally's ![]()
Mmm now your post has mysteriously gone
I think you just flamed all the surfboard rides on shore breaks lol not much difference from trickin to surfing your kite over sunbathers ![]()
I think too - the idiots are the ones who buy a certain brand - thinks its the bees knees with rants n raves and then the company completely redesigns the kite the next year - because after all the R & D pimp my vids kids & charging top dollars - it was just a crap kite, but its all good because the stupid are still fooled
and they make money ![]()
A classic Fail example is they design a 9 or 10 which works - then reduce or add material and Wallah - you have 6,7,8,11,12,14m kite range... fooled again ![]()
I think 'Best' are on the right path by designing 1 model for a set wind strength as you cant make a 6m and expect a 12m to retain its traits period
the line lengths for a start, dictate a flatter or narower canopy shape for size ![]()
I don't know if this is that constructive saffer? I suppose the only defence I can put forward to fuel and rpm riders is that freestyle needs the flatter water closer to shore and they are pushing the limits of that part of the sport with a higher margin for error.
I think the reason why these guys are labeled dickheads is because they are allways the ones in the light pulling unhooked tricks near there mates, showponies yeah but dickheads i dont think so.
they ride all types of kites and def not labeled to one brand.
Unlike a Bogan in a SS commodore.
Many reasons why people pull tricks close to beach, I know i dont pull mine on my 400m tac out to sea as its just a too far a swim in with a twisted kite!
I'm not sure doing tricks close to the shore is a bad thing unless they are getting in the way or causing dramas?
My main concern is the kiters approaching on an opposite tack and insisting on holding their upwind line even though you've clearly got the better angle upwind, so you are pretty much forced to give way down wind.
As well as that the kiters who pass close to you downwind, but still keep their kite too high.
Oh and tailgaters when you want to change direction to let someone off the beach, look over your shoulder and they're right there behind you and not looking like they are getting ready to turn around and you're losing room fast.
Not major stuff, but yeah, I haven't noticed any brand specific behaviour good or bad.
I will be doing my tricks in deeper water from now on . Out for months now broken foot ,thanks to doing tricks close to shore.
Saff - there's a difference between flat water and small chop. If you unhooked and actually appreciated the difference between the two and the ability to actually throw a trick much cleaner you'd understand why freestylers/wake love flat water. Anyhow agree with the whole crashing kite on beach. If it gets to that extent then yes, said kiter is a dickhead.

NORTH .... cough cough... kooks... cough.
