When riding around in powered conditions sometimes you want to pull some trim before unhooking, especially for handle passes etc. Then release trim again for boosting. Can be annoying.
Was thinking what if you had a bar that when, say 1 inch or 2 from the chicken loop starts pulling on the equivalent of a mini 5th line giving you an instant 1 inch trim while the bar is trimmed against the loop?
Thoughts??
Yeah, i see where you're coming from, i like.
But with the bar right out, wouldn't that line be swinging loose or something? It will need some kind of spring like coil on it or re-coil area to take up the slack
Nice idea, I thought about a similar thing a while back.
Just elasticize the line so that it is slightly tensioned when not used.
Fit an adjustable stopper so that you can change the depower when you unhook.
The only downside is that you may not get the amount of depower you would like as it would be similar to adjusting your normal depower to unhook as per norm.
I developed an Un-hooker a while back but have not tested it, it would engage on the depower line by locking it in place between the CL and the bar.
Other other option is to use a Clam cleat below the bar to engage depower when unhooking.
Cheers

i think i remember old mate from new kiteboarding developing a mini 5th for unhooking. but from memory it attached to the spreader bar so when you were waveriding unhooked you could extend the bar away from you to put tension on the line and depower a bit.
just learn how to unhook more powered / properly is the most obvious solution.
or be not lazy and reach for the trim strap.
OK I have always imagined the perfect de-power:
De-power
- roll you hands back on the bar
- the back lines lengthen by 20=30 mm
- de-powering the kite
Power-up
- Roll your hands forward on the bar
- the lines shorten by 20=30 mm
- powering up the bar
Now you have the ideas, Engineers please come up with the design...!
Application - unhooked surf perfection...

^^^ The freebar was more designed for wave riding as it still gave you the ability to depower the kite and a lot more flexibility on where / how you held the bar. Having said that they didn't really take off as it's still nowhere near as good a wave riding setup as unhooking
I'm wondering whether this is a troll or not...
Learn to unhook properly and ride a kite and bar that works/ is setup for it and you got no dramas. If you do have dramas the first thing you want to look at is probably getting a bigger chicken loop so you are set up in a better position to unhook without adding power to the kite.
