Hi all,
I have now been out twice on my new Stone Surf Designs custom kitesurf board, and loving it, and will only get better once I can tame it!
I have deck grip at the tail, but not at the front (dont want to hide it's pretty bamboo deck!), and I have found my foot slides off really easily when pushing the board around, even though it is well waxed up, particularly later in the session. This results in a not-pretty outcome usually....
I am new to this surfboard game, what waxes do you reccommend? I have the cold sticky feet wax on it currently, but wasnt sure if you use a wax to the air or water temp, or if there are better options?
Do I have to scrape it all off to start again if I try a new wax?
Get down to your local surf shop for advice. Most guys put down a hard wax base coat. Apply in a circular motion always. Then apply a softer top wax dependent on the water temp for that time of year.
Here's a good site for details

No easy fix. ive tried em all. best thing i find is to keep a wax comb in your pocket and just rake it over when it starts to slip. good as new... wax combs are awesome...![]()
The harder the wax the less the stick, problem is with kiting your feet are on the deck all the time and the wax just smears if your too soft a grade.
Put the hardest wax you can find, I use sex wax 6x warm water i think, put it in the sun on a hot day then comb it with a wax comb and cool it off,
apply a softer wax on to if you want increased stick but you will lose this coat.
If you don't mind looking a bit of a dork (like me) then wear a pair of reef booties. Your grip to the board increases x10, & no need to even maintain your wax then.
cheers

sex wax is the bomb for sure, if your struggling with grip out just grab some wet sand and rub it in, thats the best you can do for grip
Hey Guys,
Two options that I have found work really well.
1. Cork deck grip bought or made out of cork tiles, downside a bit heavy but don't suck water and the grppiest grip I have felt. If you can find thin cork such as a wall covering that is around 1.5 to 2mm thick let me know - i would cover the entire deck as the stuff works so well.
2. Get some spray-on grip like what the SUP's use, apply, let dry and then wax it - wax goes down well and stays put and if the wax wears out the spray-on grip is still there as a backup. The downside is that you may not be able to paddle surf it as it may chew up your chest / wettie or whatever.
Cheers
Rich
thanks all.
I am using the softest wax and so far it is staying in place, so will try combing it more often, and the sand job, for starters.
I have booties, but they are a bit old and the rubber has gone a bit hard and they arent any more grippy than feet, but will look at getting new ones, as it saves me cutting my feet up on the beach like I seem to do every session....
What are the advantages of wax over deck grip? ![]()
I have been using (riding strapless) the same deck grip for the last 2 seasons, has not worn off yet.![]()
