G'day Guys,

Two questions, firstly what is the best forecast indicator for Smiths Lakes, NSW area. Would you look at Port or Newcastle as they usually differ quite drastically. Secondly, Where do you launch in a westerly on Wallis Lake? Is it any good as I'm heading up there soon.

Thanks

Dave

Hey champ, I lived in forster for many years but I had never had the chance to kite there untill recently.
Ive kited smiths lake in a N/E on the lake side of the beach, only Good if the tide is up as there is a varse amount of shallow water.
Smiths lake is not that great for kite surfing.
Wallis lake I have never kited but have heard it can be ok, Would be best at low tide as the water comes right up to the trees, best spot to kitesurf would be the sailing club which is just south of Forster on the lakes way near Tiona. Best in a N or N/W
If your super keen you could try kitesurf the inlet into wallis lake if you can find a nice spot to launch.
But the best spot to head to would have to be Old bar which is about 45min north of Forster

Failing any of these flat water spots, hit one of the MANY beaches in the area.

Have kited wallis lake a few times now. I launched from the sailing club which suniboy is referring too. Bit of a tight launch if your own but you can manage it or do a water launch (is shallow). Been out in west to south (sw) and worked well in both.

Thanks guys,

I have scored smiths lakes twice and it was awesome lakeside, butter smooth. Other than that the beach. Family go up there regularly to a friends lake house so I normally SUP across the lake with all my gear either to kite or surf.

I agree that old bar is heaps better for flat water and waves in a NE'r as it can still be a little weird at sandbar but the surf is normally good so I can't complain to much.

Cheers

Lots of sharks off the beach at smiths lake, south of smiths lake is Seals Rocks which is a mega shark area.
