Biggest waves ever at Chopes - vid from last week

i bet the dude in the tinnie wishes he had a few more horsies on the back, bloody big tubes, cool vid..

Teahupoo (pronounced cho-pu), which translates into English as “broken skulls.” Indeed, the elements at Teahupoo seem almost designed for death. Just under the surface of the ocean, razor-sharp shallow reefs extend from the beach and then dramatically drop off to a depth of three hundred feet. When an approaching swell hits this reef wall a third of a mile offshore, it creates a tubular wave so powerful that it has been called a “freak of hydrodynamics.”

This is when you know you're in deep ****...

Awsome. Someone should try and get their boat barrelled in on of those caverns.

This has to be one of the ugliest waves anybody has ever taken on...

......even more so when you consider that a camera never does justice to the actual size. Let alone how gnarly it is there. I think I'd sh#t myself just being in the boat watching.

"Manoa Raimana and Shane may have scored the days but it was young Sam who survived the drop on the biggest wave of the day, which included a mid face bunny hop. Unfortunately Sam was dealt a heavy blow on the inside. When the ski rescued him he was bleeding from the nose and visibly shaken."

I'd say the dude got off lightly.

When I see this wave I have two reactions:

1. I feel a mixture of awe, smallness, nausea and wonder,

2. I then think, "that is a lot of concentrated energy just waiting for someone to turn it into electricity."

That is so funny.. bit of swimming to be done after that!
Those guys down at cronulla would eat him for breakfast
