It took me 8 years of kitesurfing.... but I've finally broken something!

and it happened at cable water ski on a wakeboard out in the middle doing a back role!

Didn't have enough height for the rotation, the bindings were new and unfamiliar and I guess they were not tight enough.... body went one way, and board went the other with my left foot twisting and pulling inside it.

I'm so peeeed off, I literally bought 3 new kites last week , and now will not be able to use them at all until Feb/March.... let alone do tricks

:(

that is the last time I go water skiing !!!!! or wear bindings

It wasn't the bindings that did it. It was the way you stacked.

If i didn't have bindings, the board would never have stayed on my feet through the raily :)

and if you learned to crash properly you wouldn't be winging on here.
How the **** do you think snowboarders and wakeboarders survive with only bindings?

How'd it actually happen? Are you saying ur board hit your leg or was it the twisting motion when your other foot came out?

Good luck. Coming up on 2yrs from my broken leg and I can still feel it

snowboarders are attached by both legs they very very rarely come out of bindings , snowboard bindings are not designed to release on impact.

Wakeboarding it can happen and fffing hurts... hence the cable incident

not much worse than a hard landing one foot in, one foot out !!! It's nothing but a word of hurt and you often have a few split seconds of knowing it's about to happen. ...................................
... Will it be the knee ? The ankle ? The hamstring ? Will I do the splits ? And split the jewels ? Or in my case a few years ago ... The hip... Left leg stayed in the strap right leg did a pin drop...

Good luck with the break..... Take good care of it and you will be back to 100% in March

they will help heaps..... I will get a pair for the nurse :)

regarding the crash, I was cutting right to left close to max speed, loaded and popped just after going under the cable, but the wire just flopped down as I loaded I guess ( not near any corners ), went for a back roll and got to the stage of starting to pull my feet under me & realised I didn't get height from the pop just speed

Front left corner of the board hit the water at a rate of knots, and tried to go towards me, while I was still rotating left, felt my foot lift 1/3 out of the binding, twist, and heard it crack and it twist some more.

floated in the middle ( no pain ), loosened the binding and pulled my foot out thinking I had rolled my ankle, swam to the side and had pain putting weight on it so hobbled with some mates to put ice on it.

fracture went all the way through the fibular, just above the connection to the ankle, and in line with the mantle bone, but below the stabilising muscles, so in short, it broke, but is sitting in the right spot due the muscle attachment points, and they just put a cast backing plate on it which I still have. X - rays after the weekend to see how it's healing, and either leave in for 4 weeks then space boot, or screw a titanium plate to the outside, and speceboot after two weeks. - I need to make sure the space boot has screw holes to match to the kiteboard ;)

.... most wakeboarders I know have destroyed their knees and various other body parts.

knowing how to crash is only useful when you have dangle time to think about crashing before it happens, rather than attempting to land
