Every time I go out my spreader bar slips over the top of the harness no matter how tight I try to get it.
Any tips to stop it happening (and the pretty bruises that show up two days later)?

Or just buy a better harness?

1. I guess keep the kite lower ??
2. Dont walk out in to the water with your kite overhead (guarenteed to jamb your bar into your chest!)??
3. Make sure you have a spreader bar pad??
4. Throw your body back a bit when jumping - same as 2 above
5. Failing the above look for a better harness !!

6. ??
7. ?? - leave these for the next guys response!!

harness is dakine tabu. Pretty cheap which probably answers the question.

I'm just looking for an indication on whether this is common or if I should look at upgrading the harness.

It hasn't stopped me going out!

when you try to get it real tight then you have to make it wet first ..
the straps stretch in water because they all use the cheap stuff.
When it dries it shrinks and you cannot tighten it as much as when
it is wet.

Learn how to fly you kite lower anyway .. even with a better harness.
but soaking it before you put it on will help ..

that's what I have done with my Dakine before I threw it in the bin.

good luck

The spreader on my Ion harness took out a couple of my ribs (had to wear a nappy harness for 2 months) So i binned it and replaced it with a flying fish harness which has extra straps to hold the spreader bar down. Others have similar ones.

Got the same harness, had the same problem. As you know on each side of the spreader bar their are 2 tightening straps (i.e. upper and lower). Just make sure you tighten the hell out of the lower straps before attacking the top ones. This solved my problem. Hope that helps.
