I've always rode cabrinha.
But where I ride I'm the only one that
rides it. Just out of curiosity do any other
Cabrinha users not bother with the leash unless riding
unhooked? I can't see the point in using it.
Your lack of common sense would contribute to why Cabrinha kites have a reputation of loving trees. Think about it.
The Cabrinha ''safety'' system is quite unconventional compared to the rest of the market, that's for sure. When connecting your leash to the designated hook above the chicken loop, the leash may seem useless unless you ride unhook like you said, but it would also be handy in case of accidental unhooking of the chicken loop, which happens...So I guess you should wear the leash for that reason only.
The way I teach beginners to transform the Cabrinha safety system into a conventional safety system is to detach the Velcro strap on the chicken loop which will uncover the 0-ring at the end of the safety line. Connect your leash directly to that ring (safety line). This way it will act like any other safety systems out there, i.e. Step 1: leg go of the bar, Step 2: Activate chicken loop quick release (which should flag the kite out instantly with no power, but it's not always the case on Cabrinha kites) and Step 3: activate the leash quick release to get rid of the kite.
I hope this makes sense.

Yeah you obviously haven't used the new cabrinha
Kites mate. The system is awesome.
I'm gonna keep riding with out a leash, was
just curious to see if others do.
I smell a troll.
But, the purpose of the leash is as backup to the donkey dick. In light conditions if you pull in too hard on the bar the chicken loop can come off the hook and the donkey dick can disengage and you end up riding unhooked. If it happens fast enough or you're not experienced at unhooking it can be bye bye kite.
In the old days I have become separated from my kite a couple of times. Now, it would come unhooked 4-5 times a year. I can't remember the last time the bar got pulled out of my hands but it has happened.
i can understand why he rides without a leash. The system still works exactly the same without one and a leash is only needed for unhooking with the newer cab systems.
Yeah I realise there's a slim chance it could come unhooked
and i could loose my kite, but I have insurance
so its no biggy.
what's the deal with 'troll'?
If un-leashed is the latest kitesurfing trend...I'm In.
I'll be riding, un-strapped / un-hooked & un-leashed.![]()
