I recently spent time in Cairns, one of a number of people that looked after a good friend, who had, what was ultimately a terminal illness. During the time that I was there, I managed to renew my addiction to kiting (or the wind – being an old poley), and would like to give a plug for the father and son team at Kiteboarding Cairns, Andy (mob 0487 311 753) and Luke, who made sure that my time spent at Yorkeys Knob, kiting was enjoyable. I started with afternoon lesson, then gear hire for the rest of my stay with the guys always willing to give a friendly word of advice whenever they thought it was applicable (which in my case, was often) and work around the time that I had available to be at the beach. I got to the stage where I could get back home which I was “wrapped” with. To the other kiterboarders I met at Yorkeys who rescued boards etc, and gave words of advice me, thankyou, you have a beautiful, warm and safe location up there and that if visitors accord locals respect then I know it will be reciprocated. As I sit pondering, plugging away on the laptop, tuned into the seabreeze website, my heart's on the beach at Yorkeys, as where I live in the central west of New South Wales, we have just had snow on the ground for the day with the temperature hovering around zero.
Yours in kiting![]()
