Question can someone please explain as to why new kite prices are so high and trades so low?????
I was considering upgrading my gear ,that was until I contacted the store about the purchase, and trade.
I was told that I should sell my gear private as I would get a better price,(my gear is not old its 2010) how am I to support the store when told this, all I wanted was to get a fair price for my trade and I would have handed over the cash there and then for the new gear.
if I wanted to sell my gear private I would not have wasted my time driving to the store.
Now I think that I am better off buying on the internet from overseas.and selling private as I dont want to give them my money now.
Who else has had this happen to them or is it just me that thinks its bad customer service.
That's my rant for today, bring on the wind![]()

just not kite shops.
go trade your car in and you will get stuff all
they have over heads etc etc so its clear cut they cant give you top dollar for 2nd hand gear. and its hard for shops to sell off 2nd hand gear when you have noobs posting **** kites on ebay for other complete noobs to bid on than break their legs ![]()
unfortunately kites are like undies. once you use em and stain em nobody wants them!...
Seriously lies don't last long. be prepared for 50% depreciation per year.
So $2000 retail
1year $1000
2years $500.
3years $250 so forth and sp p
So sometimes a shop is better off telling you to sell private as what you want for it compared to what they can sell it for is a big difference. Additionally most kites wholesale are a 100% mark up for retail.. Eg a core GTS for example $550 kite only (wholesale) +GST goes for $1200 retail.. Give or take.
So what your saying is that it is ok for the kite shop to rip us of with a 100% mark up on a new kite and then give a low trade.
Then put it up on the buy & sell section and make a 100%profit on our trades
So $1000 profit for the new kite and
$ 300 profit on our trades.
That's $1300 profit and you say that its ok
I think that is an insult to the kiting community. Makes me more keen to buy from overseas
aahh yellow your maths are wack.
assuming the above pricing is correct
$550+gst call it $600. sells to you for
$1200
trades your kite for $500. So far he has made only $100 and has a old kiting sitting on the shelf. Thats enough to feed the kids for half a week.
Now he has to move that kite to get his profit margin. It takes him 2 months to sell it and he ends up flicking it for $450 to get in out the door.
he's made $550 on a $1200 item which is good margin. but its taken him 2 months to free up the cash. thats cash he needs to pay the rent, power, chinese hooker, and buy more kites for the next punter.
selling kites is a tough business.
plus he sells you old worn crapper to a dude wanting a cheap and the damn bladder lets go the first time the guy buys it. The shop owner being a good bloke shouts the dude a new bladder for $65 and thats his chinese hooker for the week and he is not happy. Thus he suggests to you to sell it yourself.
hey ezza it might be windy i dont know about cable but i do know about kiting ![]()

< my face and nose after an epic day on the water
if i smoked 20-a-day that'd be $30x365=~$10k a year
if i was a 2-cartons-a-week p1sshead, that'd be $5k a year.
hookers - what are they, $500 an hour?
<$3k gets me 3 new kites a year on easy trade-in. the wind is free.
each to their own.
Doc.....You are an entertaining read, that's for sure.pmsl
Agree 100%...Kite shops or any shops don't only sell products they give advice ( and that is free ) or is it?
I have been to a kite shop and I talked to this guy for the best part of an hr.I got some great advice, was shown different type of kites ,boards etc and I will definitely be taking my business there in the near future.
His time = 1hr = $60 (includes super,power,etc)
If he does this 2 or 3 times a day= $180
That is a wage, and no profit yet...Someone has to pay for that.
So when I hand over my hard earned cash I know it is going to someone who earned it the hard way.
I would have done the deal, good to find a Kiteshop that will trade your gear, most of the time you have to wait to sell it before you can afford new gear "well me" at least and then you end up flicking it for the same or less.
I would say cut your loses trade your gear and know you supported a local business! in the long run you don't lose out much
going by your profile name. if you own a HONDA VTR 1000... i suggest sell that too. i had one for 2 months there ****! SUZUKI all the way
