I've got a wedding to go to in a couple of weeks at Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, I'd already thought I wouldn't bother taking kiting gear as it's off season but I just had a look on Windguru and there seems to be some wind!

Is this a freak occurrence or should I pay some excess to take some kiting gear?

Anyone know the go in Raratonga? (I'm staying in the SW, but I assume it's simple enough to get around the island)

Muri Lagoon is (not quite) the only flat water inside the reef ...but its the only bit pretty much free of obstructions and bommies.
Small , narrow beach, pretty busy on occasions.

But very nice sailing when it works.

Not sure what LEK are up to ...they were supposedly opening a school at Aitutaki last year but in the end, never heard from them......

Maybe raro is where they're going now...

and, the wind at the moment is a bit of a hangover from Cyclone Pat.???

Statistically the 'trade' wind starts in May, but you can get wind in any season...the direction varies but stabilises from the SE, E after May to some extent

you can see some Aitutaki wind stats at www.kiteboardaitutaki.com; might help though often different to raro

take your gear, you'll spit if its on and you don't' have it!

takes 30 min to get around it on the scooter and there's two bus services (clockwise and anti-clockwise)

Edit - you can fit two kiters and all their gear for a day on a scooter!
