Hey guys

I am getting into wake/cable for a bit more reliability. As every time I'm free it's dead flat and when ever I'm flat out it 20 knots just the way the world goes I guess.

I would get a board for each but the handbrake would kill me!!

Just wondering what your thoughts are on a crossover board??

I was thinking of either the cabrinha custom or the north gambler?

Cheers huddy

I used the Gambler at Cairns cable from mid May to mid July. Held up really well but a bit soft if you're planning on doing air tricks in the corners.

id say the custom, arcade or tona pop are pretty much the only kiteboards that work at cable, but still a full wakeboard would be better. The gambler doesnt have enought rocker and is pretty soft. If your choice is just out of custom and gambler go the custom but its definitely worth having a look at the Naish Arcade or the Tona Pop as they are stiffer and have a much bigger rocker.

LF watson Hybrid, Its a proper wake board which rides amazing on cable and also is my full time kite board. I was riding customs for the last few years but find the watson so much better for wakestyle kiting. huge pop and soft landings.
And goes upwind extremely well.

hi mate,

the Gambler and Customs are both sick cross-over freestyle/wakestyle boards.
The Gambler is def the best suited to ride in ocean, wake or park.

There is another board i really like which comes out of the North Factory in Austria and is designed by legendary kiteboarder Alvaro Onieva from Tarifa.

Have a look here

let us know if you keen to demo the Clash Reincarnation.

agree with jkiter. i also now ride the LF Watson. i ditched the custom (2011) as it didn't go up wind very well, the Watson does. IMO kiteboards will not last as long in the wakepark if you are hitting the sliders as a wakeboard that is built for it.(Not all wakeboards are designed for the park)

These guys know what they are talking about, Watson Hybrid is probably the best 50/50 (kite cable) cross over board their is, followed closely by the Tona Pop and Cab custom.

The Custom (don't know about 013 model) isn't as good a kiteboard as the Pop but both are about the same on the cable. The Hybrid is only slightly different to the Pop behind the kite, the pop might be a bit quicker and easier to ride for a newer rider.

I have both Hybrid and Pop and both are good imo. I've riden on the Hybrid since 010 and it's still holding up fine. I would only suggest the 138 Pop for riders 80kg and under.

Hi Guys,

The 2013 Cabrinha Custom was designed from the start as cable/kite cross over board. It is stiffer than the 2012, a different rocker line, has more grip without fins and has a Ptex base sheet.

At 90KG the 144 Custom would be your best choice.

Clash would probably be one of the worst cross over boards. Far too flat for proper use on a cable.

Yes.

It's a freestyle board which can be used with boots. Alvaro made the re-incarnation to appeal to a wide spectrum of the kite market. He plans on making a proper wakestyle/ crossover board next season. Hopefully he does.

Excuse my ignorance, but what boots do Cabrinha riders use?
I tried a Custom with straps in the Gorge this summer and really liked it, but then upwind is a non-issue there because of the current. I wasn't allowed to ride the slider either
My local estuaries are potentially really good boot/wakeboard locations especially with the tide going the right way. Unfortunately there are very few boot riders so it is a bit of an information vacuum and it would be a shame to spend lots of money on a board and boots only to find they are uncomfortable or don't work. Very few stockists too so try before you buy is not possible.
I'm still stunned at the retail price Aus/NZ pay for Ronix compared with the US. Ronix usually don't allow overseas online sales of their product either.

You can buy anything overseas if you wanted - Ebay.

As to your question, all wake boots work. Ronix is the most popular but other brands such as LF, Hyperlite, Obrien, Double Up etc... will all work fine. There is no such thing as "kiteboots", it's just marketing.
