I was kiting in the lagoon at Cocos Islands yesterday when I started noticing a fair amount of long toms jumping, a nice big turtle surfaced and a few small trevally here and there. Suddenly this fat bastard fish launched about 3 metres ahead of me and slammed straigh into my butt. I thought I had been stabbed in the butt, and was worried about more hits. turned around and got the heck out of there.
Got to shore, my boardies and underwear were torn and I have a bruise the size of a peach, and a super dooper graze. got away with it this time.... the suspected offender would have a headache and need some dental work to boot.
Anyone else been nailed before? ![]()
I was kiting a few years ago in the lovely smelly murky brisbane (sandgate) waters and a small (plate size) stingray jumped out of the water and landed on my arms and depower line and flapped around for a few seconds.
Freaked me out - lucky it didn't spike me!
had a stingray jump up in air in front of me at St Kilda last year, just missed landing on my board.
went home to youtube jumping stingrays bc never knew it happened thought maybe too much sun and drunk too much sea water that day (n st kilda water not the best)
sure enough it happens, very cool.
had 4 flying fish go thru my windsurf sail in maui 20 years ago and the hit a turtle.
