I would say that the question is irrelevant.
If in the case of an accident the kite company was found liable then they would most likely suffer a major financial burden. In which case they probably all do their utmost to avoid a problem but it is not because they go to bed at night worrying about our safety for our sakes alone!
they give u more depower than u will ever need, enough saftey systems to drive anyone nuts and even go to the extent of showing u how to fly the dam thing in there user manual.
but is that cause u expect them too or because they really care,
who really gives a S#$&!!!!! its there and if u feel so unsafe old man use them.....
then again:
1. with so many people riding with board leashes and no helmets
2. with so many people standing on the crowded beach with the kite at 12 when it is >20 knt.
3. with so many people not respecting the right of way rules
I can go on haha :)
back in the days we all had more respect to the kite and its power, safety....and now..?
People are responsible for accidents not kiting equipment.
The safety stuff is demanded by gumbies that can't control their kites properly, so the market gives them what they want at a charge.
Any safety system you can invent will be over ridden by blind panic. People are still being lofted with fully depowerable kites because they pull in on the bar when in trouble. I can site a number of examples.
^The one you peel off the valve before you inflate for the first time? "By removing this tag you are absolving us of responsibility for any accident that may cause injury or death".
My Mum bought me a kite for my birthday last year (Spoilt) took it out of the bag to check that it was all good (Smart lady), read that lable and almost returned the thing and told me I couldn't Kite anymore... I talked her round eventually![]()
how much more safety do YOU want?
Personally, When I go out, Im happy with the safety systems built into my kite to keep the public and then myself safe.
Kiting is not work, You dont need to be bubble wrapped in OH&S
Macca, what keep peeps (you on the water as well:)) more safe is when you do have enough common sense! This is pretty much another way of saying "...people kill people."
I would say, you need that OH&S wrap around you. This wrap is simply a KB of what can happen when..a, b, c etc etc. This KB was passed quite nicely with IKO training and not I-am-your-mate-I'll-teach-you thing.
it's more like,
if kite companies were worried about human safety they would discontinue making kites and concentrate on "KITEHERO" available on play station 3.
a kite company should re release the two line 9 metre that would sort out the pussies from the pussies.
I agree.
It would be awesome if the only kites that existed still were 2 liners. The pussies would die or run off crying and only the sensible people that are worth having a chat with would be left kiting
.
^^^^^^ Too true. Saw two guys turn up at our surf beach the other day. One 12m kite and no board. I asked them how much experience they'd had using it and they said "none". I explained that a fence was only meters away from them and there were lots of kids and sunbathers on the beach and did they really want to attach themselves to something that could throw them over the fence and into the carpark. They took my point and did not unpack it. Disaster averted.
Why would companies plough more money into development of additional safeties when people don't even bother to get to know their own ones?
Fact: Most riders don't bother to try out their safety before they use a new kite
Fact: Most riders don't practice using their safety so when it comes to an incident, they probably won't react anyway
Fact: Most riders don't give a **** about the safety and wouldn't buy a kite that had a better safety unless it offered improvements in free spinning options or something they see daily benefit from like that.
Haha just read this in the LF 2008 kite manual. Word for word:
100 % DEPOWER SETUP
HAVOC, HIFI, SESSION
For 100% depower option for your leash, or to self land the
kite, or flag it out for any reason, your LF bar comes equipped
with outside line safety- oh **** handle.
In the diagramatics, the also refer to the HOLY SH...T front line ring and the HOLY SH...T back line ring
Most kite incidents and near misses I see are to do with one thing, Bridles. These "safer" kites have a nasty habit of deathlooping and the safety usually doesnt work after the kite has spun a couple of times under tension. Catch the web around one of your wing tips and hang on.
