Downwinder - Terminology and Etiquete

Excuse my ignorance, but...

If you are doing a downwinder kiting from south to north, is that called a:
1. Northerly Downwinder, as in, I am kiting down wind in a Northerly direction,
or
2. Southerly Downwinder as in I am kiting down wind with a southerly wind.

Additionally, is there an established acronym for a Downwinder, i.e. Dwndr,

and finally,

Is there an established criteria for excluding people that can't get organised in time or delay departures due to their dis-organisation.
What is the acceptable time frame. greater than 10 minutes, but not more than 30???
and how many times can they delay things before they fall into the "go on your own" criteria???

you're not a parking inspector are you? You have some downwinder rage going on there.

No just sort of trying to sort out the confusion, both in communicating with people about downwinders, and wondering when others patience runs out.

I'd say it would be named after the direction you're going in. Either way there's some confusion. Going north on a northerly downwinder on a southwesterly wind

Waiting depends on so many factors, how good a mate he is, who is Collecting to you, whether beers/coffe accompanies the apology, and how often you're late.

time is irrelevant .......less than 15 knots but not more than 17

as for direction, well I think eppo's got it

When you pretty much only have one choice, life is pretty simple.
Predominant SW wind pretty much indicates that in WA you would only go in one direction anyway.
(But please for give me for assuming that that is the case, I'd hate to demonstrate ignorance.)

Some DH's in some parts of Oz other than WA do DW's in different directions. Some days the wind blows from the Nth, some days it blows from the Sth.

When relating ones excitement to interested parties about a recent Sthly DW in classic surf (over a few beers) it has different level of satisfaction compared to a Nthly DW in sloppy southerly swell.

As this has some bearing on what one could expect in conditions by simply inserting a word to indicate which way one kited, it would avoid the need to ask the (obvious) next question, "Which way did you kite?"

But then again this DH might move in different circles than the elite and not have the ability to read minds.
