Just finalised the spaceship rental for a month long trip this summer, so stoked! 
The road trip, we are dubbing "the kite safari on the cheap" will start in brisvegas and end in merimbula. mid nov to mid dec.
Im from the sunny coast so havent yet been much past brunswick heads/byron way... We've got 1400km, 8 people and a comprehensive quiver-
What are the must see kite beaches along the way? or
must see spots?
Any help would be awesome!
Yamba and Angourie for sure. couple of hours south of byron. must include a feed and beers at the pacific hotel!
I did this last year at the same time (Bris-Melbourne) in 8 weeks. Highlight spots were;
Lennox heads/flat rock
Yamba
Nambucca heads if you have a boat
Sandbar
Minnamurra
Moruya
Narooma
Merimbula (i gather you're getting there for mambo?)
merimbula to melbourne is quite nice, there are a few good spots along the way, definately go to sandy point and also inverloch. the beach at sandy point, in a SW blow, is one of the most epic spots i've ever been to. the flatwater in the river inlet is crazy if you like that type of thing.
Im on a tour right now in Byron. I did the East coast last year over 7 months from Cairns - Melbourne. I agree with Neil's picks.
Flat rock had whales today, but not too much wind, but I have to rate it as one of the best spots I experienced.
