I know of 2 guys that are keen to get into kiting just recently,
Both bought full kit off Ebay, kite, board, harness, bar, pump package for they bargain price of around $500.

Both bought really crap gear, not worth a cent.
If you dont know what to buy as a leaner, dont rush in and grab a bargain on ebay without someone who knows a bit about kiting looking at it first.

There is the odd bargin on ebay kite gear occasionly if you know what your looking at/for. Specially this time of year, ending of season, with some people selling their one season old kites/boards on auction, but you need to know what your looking at.

If it seems too good to be true.......Its is too good to be true
