With all the post about people doing stupid things, the one thing I have noticed is that a lot of the incidents have been with "holiday maker" kiters.

Rescued one floating in marginal winds one day and another time watched this one guy try self launch himself in 20+ knots with a rather large kite get double bounces and dragged up the dunes. Rushed in to grab his kite and he said to me in broken English that he pulled his safety but it did not depower enough - I wonder why.

People if you see twits on the beach tell the what they are doing wrong rather than rant on the forums as the fun police are watching!

Happy kiting
Rich

I get your point, but the main problem isn't with locals/regulars or ocean savvy people. It's tourists and local retards that don't have enough common sense to realise they actually may injure someone. I don't think a flyer or giving someone like this advice is really going to work. Maybe for a small minority. The only reason surfing doesn't have this problem is because if someone doesn't do the right thing, i.e not adhering to surfing etiquette, they will end up with a broken face. People tend to respond very well to violence. The only real option (other than smacking someone in the snoz) is to find a way of restricting who is on the beach/water with a kite. i.e compulsory license, in order to kite in WA, you must do a 2 day course, be registered with WAKSA and have a kitesurfing license number which you can give to a ranger if questioned. Crap. But these accidents and near misses and constant cock ups are not going to disappear. Imagine if some tard who had never set foot on the beach decided on a whim they wanted to take up kiting, then found out you had to a course and a test and pay for a license. You would have much fewer kiters out there and the ones out there would have had at least some training. Small price to pay.

Here we go again Violence.
when are some of the people going to learn.
So if some one gets in your way and you confront him out of the water, suddenly his bigger than you or even more aggressive, you could be the one on the receiving end of it and then who is at fault.

I've been up and down this coast for 40 years and have never been confronted as a simple sorry mate will do.
Also as i have said before never pick on some one you don't know, as next time you go to you spot of choice he has 6 mate waiting for you so were will it end.

I'm simply saying people know there are repercussions if you act like a tool while surfing. That doesn't mean I'm condoning it or I like it or I think it has a place in our society. I'm using that point to emphasis the futility of handing out leaflets. Unfortunately the dimwits that are ruining our sport are the ones that don't respond well to things like constructive criticism or friendly advice. They respond well to more primitive actions. That's what we are dealing with. And we obviously need to find a way in which we can connect (pardon the pun) with them in a positive, effective manner without breaking the law. I'm all ears.

p.s

I've never seen or been involved in any biff in 12 years surfing in WA

Under stand what you are getting at but the repercussions of yesterday were just fists next it will be to Surfers/kite surfers rolling around on the beach with knifes.

The dimwits that are running the sport you mentioned
only have a limited budget and time as they are all volunteers so i would not be hard on them. [I am not a member]

With the sport growing at the pace it is we are all in trouble, however as it is great fun you cannot blame them for joining in, but you cannot get the information over to the masses as some people don't understand beach etiquette or have ever grown up with it.

Kitestock isn't normally a problem the "holiday makers" in most cases aren't WAKSA/AKSA members and don't like spending money so generally stay away.

Is anyone noticing an increasing trend of eastern states having a crack at WA and its inhabitants?

Starting annoy me slightly...well actually not really but thought it was a observation to point out.

Anyone else?

1) Can Tony Windsor's suggestion today to curtail fringe benefits for mining FiFos be extended to beach fly-ins?

2) Queensland: a place where Joh Bjelke Petersen, Bob Katter and Barnaby Joyce are or were leaders. 'Nuff said.

I will have to turn up and ride inapropriately!
Launch in front of babies, ride between the flags, do jumps in shallow water then land my kite in a tree.

Lol easy tiger, mining only account for 7.7% of GDP and WA only contributes a percentage of that. so you and Gina aren't quite keeping everyone in Rolexes and Wainmans. I'd be happy if they dropped mining entirely, get an economy based on something useful.
