So a jump back into the positive, are we heading towards another wet and windy summer on the East coast?

Yes the pattern this year has been heading to a moderate El Nino, ie. a hotter, dryer & windier(seabreeze) summer. Ye Hah!

here is an interesting link www.weatherzone.com.au/climate/indicator_sst.jsp?lt=global&lc=global&c=ssta .
To answer your question no its unlikely to be like the last 2 summers .If you have a look at the water temp anomoly off the west coast of sth america you will see there is a bit of blue ,ie a bit cooler than the ave .Last 2 years there was lots of blue .For yhe past few weeks it was trending red . .Its looking like its trying to make up its mind but I dont reckon were gonna see another big la nina event .I am a bit worried for newcastle with the big slick of warm water heading down from qld .This does not go wekk for our summer and ene sea breezes. The last 2 years the water off the coast has been warmer than ave and not much wind and very few seabreezes .

Just though I would return to this .The bureau is now calling this the "biggest turnaround in weather patterns since weather records began" (may i suggest that they cast their minds back to 2009 and they will see that something similar happened around this time) also they say "this generally means more rain for SE Australia" .my understanding is that a la nina event (i wouldn't call it that just yet ) means that the monsoon starts earlier and that rain for QLD and SE QLD and NE NSW is more likely and that SE Australia IE Riverina NSW and Victoria are more under the influence of the indian Ocean Dipole rather that el/nino la nina .Correct me if I'm wrong

Don't see much evidence of that here, just a return to neutral...http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/ahead/ENSO-summary.shtml

Just read that on WZ, a little over dramatic, but I guess that's news.....

I heard that the other day. Speaking to a Geologist, who basically said that the dreams of that super windy season we expected are over.

A geologist?

Now if you had said meteorologist, then I could take that rumour seriously.
Until then, don't jinx us man!

don't try to understand... it's science.

"I'm a man who discovered the wheel and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn. That's what kind of man I am. You're just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a third the size of us. It's science."
