Just checking...

Looking at the info on Hope Vale above Cooktown it appears that one can only take 1 carton of mid or light beer and 1 bottle of unfortified wine per vehicle (aboriginal community).

http://www.indigenous.qld.gov.au/atsis/government/programs-and-initiatives/alcohol-reforms/community-alcohol-limits/hope-vale-alcohol-limits

Does this just apply to Hope Vale town itself or the whole reserve including Elim Beach?

If so then aaaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhh...

in my experience of dry communities if you are discreet about your grog the cops are generally prepared to overlook it. don't be obvious, don't leave empties in the open, don't drink in view of anybody etc.
by the same token don't carry so much beer that you look like a sly grogger.
use common sense and you should be alright...

may be exempt as a bona fide traveller.
but why not ring the hopevale cops and ask them?

I 've been stopped by cops several times on my way in and car searched for alcahol
Big fines apply so be careful and don't stuff it up for other kiters
