i checked it that day and remember seeing his partner pump his kite up while he ran the lines out. 
Alot of pilot's seem to kitesurf. Maybe it's their fascination with wings, or things that fly. I saw that segment last nite and what magnificent video, and also looks like he was out at the KFC on the Broadwater. Richard Branson has a private licence as well as being a very capable kitesurfer. We have a number of pilots who kite at Sandgate, from F11, Hercules to commercial pilots. One just stayed at our place for 2 weeks to learn. They are top guys, so sharp, so intelligent. This guy got up the board riding the first go.
