Hi folks just wondering if some of you know any flat water spot around the sunshine coast with S SE or Easterly winds.
Boreen Point isn't too bad but it gets gusty and patchy and certainly is not the best place where you can launch easily and not having dramas with swimmers and other lake users.
Never had the chance to try out other lakes. (I guess on the coast you cannot expect flat water spot on the ocean other then with N/NE winds, see noosa river mouth or maroochydore).
Thanks in advice for any tips or advice.
Can also kite from the caravan park on cootharaba, further round than boreen point. Similar conditions, possibly more space tho. Big lake so not overly gusty on SE, I've had some great sessions there while camping.
Lake weyba, launch best with a buddy wading out a bit with you & launching over water (easily done, it's shallow miles out). Also gusty.
Sunny coast river mouths - can be good but some hazards - swimmers/boats/fishers/kiters and also outgoing tide will claim your board if you let it.
Drive round bribie till you hit the perfect angle, clean wind but slightly protected water. Takes some practice and confidence, alone & deep & currents.
I have kited beachmere a few times (staying close to sunny coast) it's ok on low/mid tide, lots of flat sand. Stay north as far as poss (north end of the dead end beach road) so you don't catch deception bay germs ![]()
For southerly winds try Golden Beach @ Caloundra on a in going tide or as mentioned previously Bulcock Beach (Happy Valley) with out going tide.
Best to check with local kiters if unsure as currents can be hazardous.
ok thanks guys. Looks like we've got some good days ahead with Southerly during the weekend.
So nothing much close to noosa other then Boreen ponit eh?
And where abouts can you kite in Bribie?
Toppleover is on the money
Southerly - for flatish water - Golden Beach at Caloundra.
This is the North end of Pumicestone passage it ends up at Bulcock beach in river mouth. Tide flow is not significant in moderate winds - on the low-mid tide sand banks are exposed. - Go down Bruce to Caloundra turn-off - then Golden Beach. U will see others there this W/E.
For S/W southern end of Bribie Island - another 45 minutes + south down the Bruce H/way - then head for island over bridge turn first right follow along shore to last carpark before bush * houses start (approx 2 Kms). - (Take a good wettie it is cold for locals!!
)
With boat support opposite side of Cootharaba for S/W or Drive / Walking access thru' TEEWAH off the beach side - think the rangers have limited car access to tracks.. Want to re-explore this option in the next few months.
Cheers
