Any one got any suggestions on how to learn the front roll. I've been trying to do this all season and still not any closer to nailing one.
Thanks everyone ![]()
do you know what would help everyone to help you ? a description of what is happening....ie I am getting halfway through the rotation and then getting yanked...
Biggest problem I had and have seen with others is trying to pull yourself through the frontroll. This normally results in a kiteloop (back or forward) and you landing on your back.
Biggest thing is to jump off your back foot. I.e. send the kite to about 11 or 12 and then jump off your back foot and use this to throw yourself forward rather than pulling yourself forward.
- you should jump bigger than when doing a back roll (i.e. swing the kite and pop off)
- first pop off (using saffers technique), then swing your body around (i start swinging the feet/board first as it creates momentum for rest of the body to twist)
- fully commit to complete rotation no matter what happens
- just in case you use seat harness, that's gonna make it waaaay harder - much much easier with waist harness
- sh1tty wind's gonna make it harder too
Can't believe no one's mentioned that you need to look in the direction you want to go!
- Kite up to ~11
- Load and pop
- Jump off back foot and pull front knee/foot up whilst looking over REAR shoulder
- As you rotate, spot your landing and extend your legs to meet the water
Took me a while to get happening as well as i was so dialled into backrolls and looking over my front shoulder.
keep your head turning and also tuck up your knees and even grab the board with your back hand - makes it a lot easier and you can aim your landing easily then.
Biggest thing that helped me was straight after you pop, bend your front leg, this helped with the forward rotation. More info would help.
if you really want to do a front roll and not just a front spin you have to throw your head forward and down(feels way better than just a spin, more like a somersault),use your board to get pop rather than your kite so your kite is still at 45 ready to land nicely.
