So I took up kitesurfing a couple of months ago and have found it to be the most addictive sport I have done. All I want to do is get out there but here is the dilemma....wind. It seems to always be on when I'm at work and I have just realised that I can see the local kite spot from my office.
So now today I watched 3 kites zipping around the sky thinking that I may skip work early and get wet only to have the wind drop and swing south right on knock off time..........2 options.....quit work or turn my desk around!!
Change your work hours. Renegotiate your contract so that you can start at 7am and be out on the water by 3:30pm... or shorten your working day. ;)
My workplace is quite understanding and lets me take a couple of hours out of the day so i can catch a seabreeze... as long as i make the hours up later it's fine. Works great until there's 7 days straight of sensational wind, then i start getting the evil eye.
It takes a bit of time to learn and understand the wind at your local ridding spot, keeping an eye on forcasts and current conditions will help you make the right desicions in when is the best time to knock off work early or take a sicky
Remember if you are having a sicky dont get toasted, remember the sunblock. I forgot this once and went in to work verry burnt the next day after apparently being to sick to get out of bed, its a bit of a give away![]()
I know your pain.. I share a similar problem..
My advice: Lego.
Go and get yourself a little lego man to sit on your desk. Now, with a little help from a couple of pieces of string, a little bit of blue tack, and the lid of a coffee cup, he can be up and riding in no time..
best yet, if you have a blue manilla folder laying around, there's a whole world of potential for you..
just be sure to check the seabreeze current conditions every hour or so, as you want to make sure you've always got the right size coffee cup up.. nothing worse than putting up the large coffee cup lid, only then for the wind forecast to start picking up, and realising you need to switch back to the small latte size...
become a casual. Send your missus to uni after she already works full time so hopefully when she finishes her degree she'll be making up the money you have lost.
