Hi Guys,

Am planning on heading-up to Seal Rocks in NSW (140KM north of Newcastle) over the Xmas-new year period. What are the good kiting spots around there, will I need a 4x4 to get to them (ony have an X-Trail 4x4 wanabe), and in which wind directions are they good.

Thanks for the info.

Matthew.

Treachery is offshore in a nor easter, the predominate wind at that time of year. That's no good for kiting, but if you're a surfer you may get some great waves there. A southerly rips into Treachery and it's a real mess.

No 1 looks like it may have potential in a nor easter, but it's straight offshore in a southerly. Again, if you're a surfer you can get some great waves there if the swell is getting in.

I may be wrong, I haven't kited up there, but I can't really see Seals being a great kiting destination.

Better to drive about an hour north to Old Bar in a nor easter, world class smooth flat water and waves as well.

I don't know about seal rocks, but I spend a lot of time in pacific palms (15 mins north). 7 mile (Booti Booti national park) absolutly cracks in a NE'r/Southerly and can do massive downwinders, but very sharky. If you get a Westerly, then head to Wallis lake off the sailing club.

Boomerang beach good in NE'r, but probably too many people in the middle of summer. Be careful there when it gets too North can get really gusty coming around the cliff.

Butter flat water kiting apparently at Sandbar, but I'm into waves so only tried once in NE'r but was super gusty, try Southerly/SE maybe?
