Hi all,
I have a gopro and currently use a PC to do the editing. However I want to get an Air for when I travel as it is a lot smaller (and it looks nice :-).
I know these aren't as powerfull as the macbook pro, but does anyone have expereicnce editing using the standard apple software on the macbook air? Any issues with processor. ie. lagging?
For what you want (iMovie editing) it will be fine.
I've done a bit of GoPro editing on an older model MacBook, (slower than current Airs), and it worked well.
We have just changed over to Mac Book Airs for our office and Imovie edits the GoPro footage better than PC(IMO)
I love my MAC!!
trial Final cut pro x for free for 1 month - direct download from the app store. You can dow the same with Adobe premiere
Final Cut pro x is actually not as pro on the editing side as Final cut 7 (which is what i use)-for example you have to jump through 5 different hoops to do a simple split audio cut - which is - frankly - ridiculous.
but the technology it uses does afford some advantages
Native editing of the go pro/ Canon DSLR / any mpeg 4 / mpeg 2 codec (no transcoding required)
its 64 bit so uses all of the power of the computer.
I wouldnt be surprised if you can edit and render faster on the air than i can running FCP 7 on my expensive tower with 6 hard drives attached.
But it still takes 10 times the amount of time to do a split audio edit.
Apple got so much right with x only to drop the ball on the bread and butter tools that editors require. But it should be more than fine for weekend warriors.
I personally would go a MaCbook pro but air it if thats your thing.http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/atepper/story/mac_mini_for_pro_video_editing_a_field_report_from_guatemala/
