Got one for my bday...went out - snapped the mount and the string let go..see you later $400...what a great product with the crappest mounting system ever...Seriously the mount lasted half an hour...
what were you mounting to? surfboard? did you use grease and wax remover on a rag before you stuck on the sticky plate?
The actual base is still stuck to my surfboard...the plastic knuckle broke- just frustrated at wasting that much money.
Ps- I do wipe out alot, if you're not wiping out you're not pushing hard enough !
While your individual pain is not in question, I hope it's some consolation to know that the cosmos as a whole has more than enough people posting terabits of gopro footage and so, at least at a cosmic scale, we'll be OK.
In fact I think I'd be OK if there were slightly fewer gopros in the world. I just hope they're not too toxic as they corrode/decompose on the seabed.

But to the defence of GoPros, the video from Dimitri was kinda enjoyable I found. Good to see loops from the rider's perspective, gets you mentally ready..
Thing is, that "generally speaking", there seems to be a somewhat inverse correlation between rider's skill and those video cameras.
To be fair, I don't think many kiters actually use the stock "surfing", kit suppiled with the Surf Hero. Might be ok for surfing, but......

@ Dj Dojo...I had no intention of using the footage to add to the glut of lawn mowing footage clogging up Seabreeze- I was using it for photos and for personal only.
Pretty pissed off though that the mount broke so quickly under what I would deem it's normal use.

Sucks dude, bit late I know but you can buy a floating mount for the back of them
now or just fix one up yourself.... think there are some threads here on that.
I use the suction cup mount. I just wipe my board b4 i put it on to get any little bits of sand and stuff off and stick it on and tie it to my foot strap. I have also used it to put under my longboard (skateboard) whilst i'm riding around. Had no problems with it.
Surf mount system is designed for surfing not for kitesurfing way more abuse to the case with kitesurfing due to the added speed and water pressure,your better off line mounting it ,used mine board mounted in up round 40+ knots ,tightened it as hard as its poss and after a few hard hits it still gets smacked forward so its getting a hell of a hit,have snapped one case so far,these days if i board mount i try to get over the wave as clean as i can so the camera dosent get a pounding.
Most kite shops should now have the Kitehero fin box camera housings in stock now too. Very robust. I'd say the only chance you got og losing your camera with this one is if you lose your board

I have seen a few variations on gopro floats now, for example these:

i think the go pros are your best value camera on the market- just sux they dont float.heres some pics of what i have done to mine- ive lost 3 in the ocean and wasnt until i got my 4th that i learnt my lesson to stick a float on. heres a cheap solution. its just a high density foam and put some quick grip glue ( the yellow glue/ bear grip etc glue) and stuck it on the back. works a treat. dropped it in the surf heaps and floats straight up easily. plus its yellow so sticks out like dogs balls when your trying to find it.

I really doubt you could break one easily ( I've learned some people can break anything though haha). You would need to put some inserts into a surfboard though, the fin mount is set up for TT board fins spacing.
Checked out the fin mount- there is no way to mount it on my board, not real keen on drilling a Kipuna to add a mount system....in all honesty I think I will double leash in future with a suction cup and the existing leash plug. I like Ry's idea too of the foam on the back. Didn't really want the gopro specifically for kiting anyway- I had some other stuff in mind that I haven't seen it used for yet....spewing that the day I got it was just too good to resist chucking it on the Kipuna for a spin and I lost it.

On one of my longboards I use the FCS mount and had a small leash plug put in as well so it can't go anywhere.
same as above. takes some time but its worth it. local ding dude will do it for 50 bucks or so if ya not handy... id never trust the sticky bits...
Dont think its the mounting system thats at fault its the case snapping through the two flanges thats the problem,i wouldnt reccomend using the suction mount on a board,after a few decent smacks it pops off,whats needed is a heavy duty case with a way thicker flange setup,specifically designed for kiteboards,and a built in floatation system.
I've been hearing about losing GoPro's since they first came out.
I wouldn't be surprised if ⅓ of their sales are due to re-purchasing.
Tethered to a plug is a good option, but it could cause damage to your board when the camera-mount brakes or comes off.
what you should do is consider the positive here....
One day a stranded island goer will find yer go pro's on their baron shores and turn it on
They will be in joyous raptures watching the "knarly" moves you've been hitting..
They will watch it over and over and it will relieve their boredom ,,,,,,also giving hope to them that they may one day be resued off that island, to one day learn to do what you have inspired them to do.
It's a geat name for a product "Gopro", it,s sums it a completly. Yet to see any thing worth watching.Hours of footage and if your lucky,seconds of gold.
