Great news, Thank you for the improved insurance policy now provided to AKSA members. Policy now includes a personal injury component at no extra cost.![]()
Excess was $5000 in 2010-12, so it reduced for the current policy
Before that it was $1000, and there were several cases of the kiter involved either not paying it or taking a couple of years to pay it (this is for injury claims up to $110,000), so the excess was increased by the insurance company. In a few cases the state associations paid the excess as the kiter had disappeared or left the country.
So when you consider that you could be up for $100,000 or more if you cause a serious injury to someone, the $2500 excess does not seem too bad to use the AKSA policy.
Tough to swallow but 100's of thousands or $2.5 thousand ?? !! Ill happily take the $2500 option please.
But apart from thinking of just your own house & car & future wages ....... How about considering the poor innocent beach walker who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
With KA cover the dudes got a future. Without it he is reliant on what assets can be seized and what a % of your income for life will cover.
I don't want that guilt trip on my plate for life.
FFS its only the cost of an average tank of fuel & everyone is covered.
What a load of %^&8, worse case scenario in an accident with a kite is a bad line cut or maybe a broken arm or something (talking to a third party here).
Hardly a life changing injury, the dude doesn't need a future he needs to be compensated for 4 weeks off work at the most.
However with the yankee mind set he will milk it to the core and probably get a 500k payout.
Not against the insurance and I will sign up as we have no choice with all the greedy $%^& encouraged by ambulance chasing lawyers but I just find it so sad.![]()

Admittedly I haven't looked at the policy details but does it cover time off work or only medical fees?
If you were ever wondering whether insurance was worth it or not just an hour ago at pt Walter I witnessed a Kiter fail a launch, kite rolling along the small stretch of sand, 3 kids standing near by, 2 kids duck the smallest kid cops 2 lines to the neck I asked him if he was ok, being a tough little man he said yeah but was obviously shook up about it, the only thing saving him was the lack of wind.
Same Kiter had someone holding the kite, unhooked completely, gave the bar to a lady friend (no harness) went to the kite where the person was holding it an secured the kite himsel******ifferent way to land I guess.
can I have a link to the insurance please. I have let my membership go, but now I want it again.
I must admit I'm lucky out here on Southy, not many spectators... But there was this one time(at band camp) when I hit a little fella on the beach... KO'ed him pretty bad. No-one saw it happen so I just dug a hole in the sand and chucked him in it.....To this day I have some regrets.
Blo ody penguins they always get in the way!
