Hey guys just wanting some feedback, I have a 13.5m 09 Naish Cult and I have been having trouble in winds about 10knots. It has very slow turning in this kind of winds and it is making it hard for me to get going. I am 105kgs and was just wanting to know if I should be looking at another kite for these winds, maybe a bigger size etc??
Any feedback would be great.
A. 10 knots is gay.. why would you even bother.. When its 10 knots its a total bag of aids so just grab a beer and chillax..
B. There is nothing wrong with your kite. You need more wind
C. 105gs is pretty beefy. to move that frame on a 13.5m kite you will need a minimum of 13-15 knots to even water start.
My advice is...... when you know the wind sucks, (and you do know truth be told) dont be one of the many idiots I see attemting to set up their gear. Then after they do 1 run and fail misserably they end up doing the walk of shame cause they cant go upwind... That's when I'm sitting on the shore with a cold beer laughing quietly to myself thinking.. Oh you forgot your retractable eel leash, gojo and full lycra stinger suit. Douchebag!
Too many cookies & not enough baked beans for more wind
is why your kite is as slow as a snail with asthma ![]()
Get yourself a SUP board & youll have fun kiteing at 10knots
Otherwise sex & beer is your only alternative ![]()
the order is optional ![]()
Cheers
^^ what's the point of loving it when it's no longer fun... i.e. trying to kite in too weak winds... but it's all cool... it's all part of the learning curve...
Way too much ego in this sport. If a beginner is having fun in 10 knt winds what gives you the right to judge him and call him a douchebag?
dude if you knew me (which u dont) then u would know I ride hard.
Now 10 knots is 'aids' and unless your on a 17m kite and experienced you would be wasting your time and also doing your gear no good.
So yes call me jaded but I have seen it all before with kooks not having too much idea about when to head out and when not to. kites falling from the sky in 10 knots into trees, dodgy launches, dodgy landings even!
I'll stick with my beer on the shore thanks. (and yes you are a douchebag if you go out in 10 knots or less.. ) But it's all a learning curve as old mate superlizard says. But after a few learning curves too many you will come around to my way of thinking and know when to head out and when not to bother.. My advice.. get an esky, fill it with beer, wait for kooks to set their gear up, prey for 10knots, watch the fun begin. ****xSAVx was not called a douchebag by the way..*** He asked a legit question. got a legit answer
Im 87kg and on an 11m Octane i can ride just fine in 10 knots. not as much fun as 15+ but last friday i was the first in the water and for about an hour i had only two other kites out with me (Zephrs). I can ride up or down wind in 10 knots not a problem but i would think a 15m+ kite and a bigger board would be needed if yr over 100kg. Its your kite and gear so have fun trying. I think some guys forget what it feels like when you first get up and ride and you want to keep trying no matter what the conditions. I hope i never get like that.
^^^ spot on about Cult. Me mate just got one (starting to kite), and flying it after my usual C / hybrid current model kites, this was like 50 times slower and noticably weaker... i don't even get why they deviated from the mainstream kite templates by introducing that weird zig zag leading edge shape... there must be some reason, but i didn't feel any benefits when testing it.... it also looks weird... in my personal opinion, i think using this type of kite as a beginner would disadvantage your progression comparing to some other faster kites.
But speaking of light winds, i have one 17 m Fuel for sale.. excellent condition... very cheap... checkout my profile. I used it in the past to get going when most guys with 12s were parked on the beach.
My biggest kite is a 10m Ozone Lite. I'm 64kg and 10 knots is my lower limit if I work it and build apparent wind. Big kites are for big people, not light winds, (Unless it's a Zephur or equivalent). Board size makes a big difference to light wind kiting.
The Cabrinha site says the 16m Crossbow can be used in as little as 7 knots for a rider that weighs around 75kg... so i'd say that it would be ok in 10 knots for a 100kg rider...
Regardless of what others think, i still reckon it's better to have at least tried to kite in 10 knots than waiting for those perfect wind days...
You see the same mentality surfing - the guys who sit out the back waiting for the huge perfect waves for up to 30 mins between a proper ride as opposed to the other guys who are riding wave after wave only 15 metres closer to shore... i've been both guys and i know which is more fun...
no flys on the doctor...
yeah I can ride in 11knots on my 9m.. do I have fun.. NO, do I know how to kite.. Yes, do I work the hell out of my kite at 11kts yes I do.. do I bother in 10 knots. no i dont... leave it to the desperados...
go figure what? Moral is your 54 kgs and have a 13m kite so you can ride in 10knots. If your 105kgs and on a 13.5m kite you can not. common sense really.
ride my wainman 9mtr dude.. 11knots can ride but I have to work it like crazy. not much fun.. plus I'm 66kgs
they have a wind range of an 8-11mtr kite.
NO BS.
and you keep your miracle!
mantis5 you sound so hardcore! Are you a pro kiter? When you say you ride hard do you mean when you're kiting, or other men? If I knew you (which I don't) then I'm sure I'd know what you mean. When you're sitting on shore watching all the 'douchebags' giving it a go do you ever offer these people any of your expert advice or do you just watch and laugh at them while you 'chillax' on the beach with the beers that you got your big brother to buy for you? Am I using your fantastic lingo in the right context or is it all just a 'bag of aids'?(man I feel cool!)
ha ha your awesome jaffa..
Nope I'm def old enough to buy beers... Not into men sorry... When I say ride hard I actually mean I push myself. My bad, sorry.. I like to chillax and drink my beers so if your around this way.. (which I ever doubt) then your welcome to come out to check out DB's with me.. It's fun.
You are cool jaffa.. Aids or not.. Your from WA where all the cool kiters are from.. Pity we never get many over this way.. I'm a WA boy also...
Anyways, with your 5 posts on here maybe less means more? This has been the most constructive thing you have said on seabreeze so for that I thank you.
JP out
(looking forward to jaffas nasty response already!)
^^^^^^
Thank you, I take that as a compliment! I like to help out where I can, and bringing your ego down a couple of pegs is for the greater good of the kiting community. I'm glad that I have helped you with my quality of post rather than quantity of chest beating 'aids'. You've probably got 600+ 'friends' on facebook I suspect.....
Hey guys thanks for the input I am new to this sport so any info is good to me. It is also good to see that paintball forums aren't the only forums that people bash the **** out of each other, was a good laugh reading some of the post ![]()
Thanks again
