Imagine the rider is gripping a kite-bar in his righthand. ^^^
See how he's looking at the lip.
He actually can see the lip cause he's facing the wave.
Where he's looking is where he's going to end up ...
Smacking that lip.
lol.
Is it possible to be that close to the breaking wave on a kite? I'm always way out in front but that must be just me. The video of Robbie Naish at Hossegor(
) on kite forum shows him close to the bottom of the wave going backside. Is it that easy? Was doing just that today slaveboy, but with all sensiblilty, why would he be holding the bar in his right hand in that situation when his next move would be a hard left ?
can't be , trolls are little scrawny critters with tiny horns and brains and the only time they look up is from under a bridge not at the top lip ![]()

slave if you like to simply be dragged along the face by the kite (as you seem to enjoy doing) you should already be turning the kite down at this point, with the bar in your front hand.
Firstly I love you waveslave, you rock the potato, over n over!
Bar in left hand...
You've held out, stalled till way late,
You've dropped... This in itself is something most avoid, too busy powered up..
You're fingering the wave on the bottom turn..
Total faith in your kite to float back as you undershoot it.
Smack that lip,
Drop again and reach up with your left hand,
Yank on that line as the kite falls backwards,
Fade way out,
Kite loops and rises,
Come back for more...
Claim it.
No one sees it, doesn't matter... That's kitesurfing doode!
Yeeoowwww! [:)
Why you'd do that with the kite in your right hand I don't know??
Seriously slave, you should turn these instructionals into little vids like what Ben Wilson does. You know the ones where he sits in front of his laptop and goes through each move in slow mo? That would be great :)
hey dudes keep it friendly, i for one enjoy waves insight to riding, keeps me pondering my own ride....just asking to be polite
Yeah I enjoy waveslaves posts, even if I don't agree with all he says it gets you thinking
Onya wavey, hey why don't you come up to the Wedge Wave comp?
Slave you made me think a bit about frontside, backside, the positives/ negatives and the general aesthetics involved in doing so. And I came to a mini-realisation;
Although surfers prefer to ride front-side and most people enjoy seeing frontside surfing more than backside, I think skating is possibly the opposite. Backside is harder on rails and in bowl and the holy grail of bowl and handrail tricks is the backside smith or backside nose-blunt... and they are the pictures people want to see... Makes me wonder, now with the obvious direction of surfing following skating, will surfing backside airs and punts be the new "in-thing"????
There ya go, more rabble added to the rabble-fest.
BS smith in ramp.
BS smith in street.
BS nose-blunt in ramp.
nose-blunt in street.
Im with Rowdy.. I actually prefer to watch someone who goes off on their backhand. Its generally more difficult to do, therefore I appreciate more and when someone manages to do it with style, thats just sweet.
And even for you old folk out there. Think back to Occy at Bells, Jbay or Sunset.. how awesome was that to watch!
Morning Mr Slave, There has been no mention of the wind direction in this senario. If it is pure cross or cross off and Dude is downwinding I can accept the right hand bar hold. If the wind is on or cross on & Dude is downwinding, Dude would have to left hand the bar. Dude's body position def lends itself to being unhooked. Something to aspire to eh ?
