All my whingeing about lack of wind caught up with me today.![]()
Big swell, heaps of wind, I got totally hammered!!!!![]()
Dropped the kite in the drink 3 or 4 times, I can't believe it's still in one piece, albeit dripping wet in the shed now.
While I was dealing with a downed kite in 4-6 foot swells, the slamming shorebreak creased the nose on my favorite surf board.
Had to go out on the twin tip. Again, got hammered.![]()
Attempted to boost over a crashing set, got the timing wrong, powerful wave smacked the board violently up, heard both knees go 'crack' fraction of a second before knee slammed into my jaw. Still feel a bit wonky in the head and legs from that one.
Had one hold down hooked into the kite where I couldn't even get my hands to the release, really thought it was all over.![]()
Sitting home, having a calming xmas ale,
kinda feeling lucky to be alive. Water pouring out of nose every time I move my head.![]()
That was the heaviest session I have ever had.![]()
F#@ked up, going away next week, don't know how I'm going to get my board fixed by then.
Feeling humbled by nature.![]()
It must be hard for you WA kiters, poor things.
Have a big cup of "Harden the flock up"
We aint had good wind for months and months!!
the sadistic part in me wishes that I was in your shoes...we got skunked today, wind backed right off early...at least you would have scored a couple in between the mishaps....
YEW.....
NSW certainly turned on one of those days, serious wind and waves.
Wish our Southerlys were as consistant as Nobbys. . . .
My 7m got fairly well used and abused, was pulled off my board by a gust, dropped kite while getting washed in the impact zone, released and had kite wash up on the beach. No harm done, a good wash and swim in for me.
Rigged up again and had another crack after the showers passed.
The forecast for tomorrow is looking same again and am hoping the swell is a bit cleaner tomorrow.
Be safe, bring it home, bring it on!

you weren't the only one .Carnage abounded in the area .Such a shame when there was such a good game of cricket on![]()
I hear you Joe Cron went out yesterday morning surf was huge wind was up ended up ripping a strut in my kite after being smashed by a few big waves .Should have waited to the afternoon the conditions were heaps better and surf was a bit smaller.
What are you living in a bubble
We have had heaps of wind in QLD
hehe,, just had 30kts and a good solid 6ft swell all to myself,, just had to dodge the occasional 'big f#cker'... Going over the top of them on way out, lost sight of my kite, lines were through the wave... I know I'm gonna get killed eventually, but geez its fun!

had the same feeling yesterday
happy to be still alive!!!
fell on a big big wave (everything is relative, but when I start going down on it, I knew something bad was about to happen) after a short surf on it
bounce on the wave before being smashed
then I saw my board living its own life
big packets of water rincing my noze
getting back on my board and come back on the shore
and after hesitating came back on the water :)
I was next to Kingscliff in NSW too
I wont forget this session!!!
Got out on Boxing Day for a great session at Ocean Grove - nearly got smashed!
Dropped my kite in the drink, and was totally prepared for the swim-in as is usually the case in decent swell, however.....
Kite got slammed by a wave, ended up leading edge down and completely inverted.
*the following is not recommended to anyone really*
Thought ah well let's see if pulling on the 5th enough will flip her over...
Another wave hit, couldn't see the kite, all of a sudden she's shooting straight up, all hot-launch style, had the depower sheeted all the way in, and hey presto! I'm back on the water...
Seriously left thinking 'Did that really just happen?!'
Got smashed by a shorey the other day going flat out, just didn't see it (charter boat...), obviously focussing on something else. What a bell ringer, like being kicked by a horse!
