I can boost huge, but wanna go bigger!!
What's the deal with looping the kite multiple times while jumping,? Saw it on a vid on seabreeze and want to try it. But it looks like the kind of thing you don't want to get wrong!!
My kites a slingshot Rally which is classed as a pivot turning kite. ie turns almost on its own axis without really producing any more power. So would this be the right or wrong kind of kite to try this move on??
(I've gotten kite loops wrong before and I dont bounce so well !)
Any one who's tried this move before got any tips???????????
just pull down hard on one side of the bar at the apex of your jump... trial and error will sort out the rest... an impact vest will help with the error bit...
its not all the kite but comes down to the rider aswell. i had rallys all last year and just went over to a north rebel. had a 10m rebel out in 25 to 30 knots the other day and i was boosting way higher than i would on my rally and it had better hang time.
Just my 2 cents worth
Looping the kite will not make you go bigger, it'll just keep you up there longer - but only if you are looping the kite above you. In order to loop the kite above you, you need to take off the water with the kite as close to the wind as possible (not downwind) and then keep the kite directly above you (not to the side). You also need to jump big enough that you swing under the kite so the kite is a little bit behind you when you start looping it (otherwise you'll just head downwind, not keep your float).
I may be wrong, but with normal wind conditions you could probably only complete 2 loops before landing even with a small kite. I would assume that to do multiple loops (e.g. Jesse Richman's 30 second jump) you would need to jump during a crazy gust of wind with some sort of updraft. Either that or you've jumped kite high which we all dream of but very few get there (even though it feels like it!)
BTW Don't try it with an Edge. Those things jump big and hang long, but they turn too slow for anything more than a downloop on landing. The Rally should be fine.
^^^^^^ it means jumping to the height of the kite ie: 20 -25m high
It often feels like we are going that high but when you truly compare most of the time we are not.
Evan is right looping the kite will not make you go any higher at all. THe best way to get max height is to practice your pop ( as in wakestyle pop ) then combine this and the timing with your boost ie: load up begin sending kite pop hard boost etc...... it is all in the timing.
Smaller kites boost higher but have less hang time.
It also depends on what style of kite you are using ...C kites require a bit of pendulum effect ie : really send the kite
. bow/ hybrids can be boosted maily just by sheeting in and sending the kite to just 12 or 1
a combination of both methods and the pop timing will see you going larger than before.
jump off a mountain on a really thermally day .You will go really huge ,loop like there is no tomorrow(watch some snowkite vids for some ideas) ,there is a good chance that you will die but your epitaph will read "he/she died doing what he /she loved " (it's what i'm hoping will be my epitaph, even if it is a result of a good sesh with my wife
)
This is the only reason i ride strapped in a nor easter
Check feathering lip....
Check landing zone...
Yeeew......
