Kiting today on my 12 C4 tried a Blindjudge and missed the pass, leash hooked bar end and Deathloop ensued. After about four I decided to let the kite go.
Sh!t is I just cut a bar down with trimmed ends, but as it was gluing today i was running my standard bar.
Two Questions - When is the new Ozone bar coming out ?
- Where can I get some soft bar ends like a wakeboard handle for my control bar ?
bars not coming till 2013 kites so this october i believe. Steve from KP will know.
Think i might start trying my Blind Judges a little further from the shore line compared to normal...
To nickt I've been told by a mate who's involved with ozone in the UK that we may not see it till 2013 ,they wernt happy about the quality of the plastic components on the bar so they've outsorced the manufacturing to another company ,for me I'm happy with the current bar clean simple and well engineered
Its happened to me on a slingshot bar - so maybe not just an ozone fault. Kind of makes you regret riding suicide tho.
Thanks Turtle, didn't want to pay $30 for a $2 part though, i've seen a guy using them before and thought there might be another source.
Muirs, yeah its just those hard bar ends, not Ozone bashing just more waiting for the new bar also. Thought Ozone might pull their finger out and release ASAP rather than waiting to 2013. Just means i'll upgrade later rather than sooner.
do most "un-hookers" ride suicide? do the cons out weight the pro's i.e leash snaps and clamp bends under the strain of your not so fully depowered kite? im literally terrified of my leash clamp breaking after having one do so under the strain of just a flag out and have considered using two leashes tapped together to give me that extra piece of mind.
i mainly practice out in the open alone so im not to fussed about my kite flagging out but i could see it being an arse in some situations.
Not sure if anyone else has tried this but I have ridden with 2 leashes since I started unhooked riding. Connect one to the safety as normal ride a safe distance from shore then connect the suicide leash and ride with both at the same time. Works for me if kite goes onto suicide has the added bonus of being able to yank the one on the safety so that it flags the kite a little. Obviously disconnecting suicide method before returning to beach.
Not recommending this method as any mod to a manufacture safety system is your own decision but does work for me
sounds good to me, dont really get the whole connect away from beach thing? i would have thought a depower to the window was safer than a uncontrollable flag out down wind in most beach cases?? (im not taking the piss i literally am not sure) do the leashes flail about annoyingly or ever give you trouble? would a weak bit of tape on two points have any bad side effects?
EDIT: must add i have never had a bad uncontrollable beach slide accident so this is probably the cause of my ignorance.
the problem being hooked in suicide on the beach mywisdom is you only have to trip over and send the kite across the window and it will still drag you while depowered or worse still after tripping over your leash gets caught around the bar end.
you want to be able to kill all the power if some thing goes wrong on the beach ie. flag the kite
The connect away from the beach thing is that I consider launching and landing on suicide rigging to be dangerous.
No pro's dont double leash but it matters a lot less to them if they lose a kite (added to the fact there will almost certainly be people to retrieve it) than it does to me.
Absolutley leashes should be looked after and maintained etc but having had a north leash in seemingly perfect condition fail completely after 4 months of use I lost confidence in only using one....
Just what works for me ......
