Want to buy a instructional DVD for a friend for his birthday, (and yes I'm low enough to burn it first...he he![]()
), he is an intermediate sort of rider - can do basic loops etc, but wants to up it a little.
Surprise surprise I'm at the same level ![]()

I think progression is the best.
Grab the intermediate (transitions, backroll/loops, frontrolls/loops) and the Advanced (40 chapters of board off, then un hooked raileys, s bends) should keep you guys going for a while.
Very good instruction. Gets a bit repetitive but i usually watch before i try something. Try for a couple sessions (if i dont get it first session) then re watch and can always see what Im doing wrong.
Have you ever heard of the DVD from 9times world champion Kristin Boese? Kitesurfing - a comprehensive guide. It is one of the best instructional DVDs I came across.
I see the point that you might not want to give a friend a DVD from female kiter but I had a few guys borrowing my DVD from her. They were stoked the way she is explaining and showing tricks.
You can get it from her website: http://www.kb4girls.org/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=1&vmcchk=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=219
Women (I am one too
) have a different way of learning and teaching but it applies to a lot of guys as well.
Good luck with your decision!
get the advanced.

The next dvd is professional. Dont have it but i think it goes straight into mobes.
Kite-skills.com? The progression DVD's and the old Shannon Best kitesurfing 201.
Sounds like you just need to add/ progress on what you've got.
ie, add an extra 180 and turn the backroll into backroll to toeside? then do it grabbing your board with your front hand (makes the rotation even easier). Basically try and do a u-turn at speed without leaving the water. Dont think jump like a backroll. Pendulum effect will mean that you will pulled from the water anyway. cant go too far backwards into the 'u-turn', more the better. Next step another 180 more which means your bar will be behind your back (back to wrapped).
maybe backroll kiteloop, send it back a little further at first for less grunt. tweak the start and you've got a 'darkslide'.
Maybe a backroll transition, then with a handplant, maybe double backroll etc
Tail grab a sent frontroll/ front loop (as you only really need your front hand on the bar after you send it back to launch).
In fact use your kiteloop/ downloops to extend everything. ie, standard jump with a downloop landing to power out of it properly. or a sent frontloop or backroll transition, pulling front hand down on landing to loop and power away down wind and then in the opposite direction. Makes transitions so much better.
Think I know what you mean about the Hadlow progression stuff (dont like the stuff that doesn't flow, like KGB's, dangles, blind etc). S-bends / tantrums (or fantrums or whatever the purists call them) can be done hooked in and flow easy enough.
The progresion series break each move down quite well, but the biggest problem is staying awake for more than one chapter.
