My house & contents insurer - CGU - isnt offering cover for sporting goods outside of the home this year
Anyone know which companies are still offering cover for kites & boards, cameras etc stolen from locked cars.

I know its been discussed before but I have tried a 'search'.

have you had it with them last year? If so, that's a bit suss that they can just stop supporting it if you aleady had it on the policy...

i'm also with them, and last time i renewed (few months ago), they were still covering my gear...

I am pretty sure they can stop it, obviously not part way through a contract, but definitely for a renewal.

The last time I inquired, at the start of the year, AAMI was covering this. It's part of home and contents and it's called something like optional extras. Obviously it doesn't cover the equipment while in use.

uhhhhh I just took out a policy with them 2 months ago...

I asked the guy about 10 times to confirm it covers my kiting gear, said no probs its covered all around oz and overseas for 90 days.

only exception is that its not covered while in use which is fine.

Andrewm who are you with? I think i have a similar cover to yours with Allianze. I did the same and asked him like 6 or 7 times just to confirm it but he said it was covered, which included travel around AUs and o/s for 90 days as well.

CGU.

Pretty sure it was part of their portables cover. basically any item under 2k per item (or was it 5k per item) is covered anywhere in oz and 90 days overseas.

I didnt even have to specify or give serial numbers for my gear as it was all under the 2k per item (or 5k per item) limit...Only thing I am wondering now is whether there is a limit on how many items I can claim on.

as I had just been screwed over by SGIO, I made sure I asked the CGU guy about kitesurfing gear and he kept saying no problem just not when its in use.

We had a few cars broken into recently up here and I couldn't risk it any more so I insured kites with AAMI.. they were awesome

"portables insurance" covered $4000 of kites for $103/yr
(same deal as the others - not while in use)

Uh, if they have changed the policy then it's not a renewal because it's no longer the same contract. Bl%dy insurance companies...

If they have changed the policy, then technically it's not a renewal, as you're signing up for a different policy. Bl%dy insurance companies... grr.

Makes me think of the claim on some products you buy at the supermarket: New and Improved! Which one is it?! If it's New, there was nothing like it before and thus it can't be an Improvement. If it's an Improvement then there was already something before it to improve upon and thus it can't be New. Ouch, my head hurts. I'm going kiting... Redkite Downwinder! Oh yeah!

Does make me wonder if I'm covered or could get cover for mine tho. Best make a couple of calls.
