Yesterday I was presented with a lot of yelling after I've jumped on a little flat water ramp.
From my perspective there was a fair distance ie kite lines length and knowing the other rider is quite skilled, I've made a call and jumped.
Important part is that I always go downwind when jumping, sometimes a lot. For sure if the other rider goes downwind, the kites might collide. Which is true in any circumstances if my kite is higher.
Now, was it a wrong call?
Thanks
PS Other rider well upwind of me and at least 30-50m far going to my direction.
I dont think wrong call as it dosnt sound too close a call,
I always look at the other kiter from the air so their aware Im aware of them.
didn't look at your image long but you prob shouldn't jump when someone is downwind of you. (unless they are well far enough away of course and there is no doubt you will not come close to them) so yea "scream fu%k" could be appropriate in that situation.
^ ^ ^ didn't look at diagram at all, or read the post.
If you were a lines length away and down wind then you should pass with your kite low. Jumping means your kite will be high so I can see his frustration.
But if youre experienced, confident and made the call, then who gives a fk if he spat chips ha!

As mentioned, kite will always go higher when you pop, but will also go downwind as you say float away...
The jump is much faster than tacking upwind. Ads a bit of close call but we are skilled
enough. It's not that big beach with 15-20 riders at the time...
If is a newbie I wouldn't jump in front of him.
Yes I had a similar experience except the swearing bit yesterday. Problem is with the edges the hangtime longer than I anticipate always...
so I have decided I will only jump downwind of people from now on...just in case. even if they are a considerable distance away...Was turning a double back rotation, slowed it down as had some height and half way around my second rotation saw someone downwind of me and had to pull out and crash...yeh I'm just gonna go downwind and not risk it hey.
except if it my brother, I will attempt to jump and clear him...its a game we play that will only end in disaster one of these days! LOL.
The b*tch is when you're on a starboard tack approaching someone holding hard to their upwind port tack, so you decide to drop your kite low and pass them down wind, you get around 30m or so away from passing and they decide to do a jump right in front of you.

Yep, that's a b*tch. Long time ago ended a few times wrapped in someones lines like that. I'm in due for one...
You could just wait 10 seconds until you have both passed each other.......
I'd prob yell at ya, if I had to raise my kite up because of yours going vertical.
But yeah, real first world problem when the biggest issue in your life is your local kiteboarding spot is getting too busy.....
It's a hard life.
Don't worry theres allways somebody that will be offended no matter what you do.
I would laugh hearterly if someone screamed out "scream ****c" at me.
I had a windsurfer scream his lungs off at me a while back. I was on the wave face well up wind and blasting down the line. he dropped in on me from a downwind angle. ... and deamed i was in the wrong... go figure.
anyway some people are very conservative so unless you know them i would say do your crazy stuff well away.
if your buddies then its game on. I've boosted off a wave lip after being splashed in the fast buy a fellow kiter riding the wave!
Yep true that. When its me, my bro and another guy dog styling it in the waves it's game on. Three blokes in the air at the same time all jumping in different directions and trajectories. Funny sh1t.
Sometimes you wait for the the dude down wind of you to pass before jumping but then they decide to change direction and head back out again and you look down and see them heading out under you.........!!!! ![]()

Agreed that's gonna be my go from now on. Except if its with the crazy crew then I'm trying to jump over their kites as well. Can only end in tears....

Point taken. Thanks.
The problem on a busy beach is that you can keep going like that for a while...
Having 100m between 15-20 riders at 20kn is a dream on my local:) Would never jump than.
As said, I do not jump near noobs and from a skilled rider I do expect fast movement. Observe and act appropriately. Transition. Downloop. Whatever floats you board:)
