Guys,
I can jump going on my natural side,
cant jump going goofy.
I expect its my stance on the board, any constructive suggestions!
thanks
just keep practising and try to copy your prefered stance, nobody can jump as well on their non-prefered as they can on their prefered, its like being right handed and trying to write with your left, after practise it will be fine.
Im sure there are many of us out there that have a prefered side for jumping,be it natural or goofy. When jumping natural try to take note of how your stance is and what you do with your legs to get the pop off the water for a good jump. And now the hard part is what you did with your right you now have to do with your left and vice versa . That also applies to the swinging back of the kite. Try to practice using small waves to boost off, when you get that dialled then try flat water. Good luck
I reckon this whole preferred side thing is to do with preferred feet and hands more so than directions of movement.
If you have more control and natural coordination in your right foot and you can back roll when your right foot is back, then that would make sense as your right foot is doing most of the work.
You may ride upwind better the other way (right foot forward) because upwind ability has a lot to do with keeping just the right amount of front (ie rightfoot) pressure to not bog the board down and maintain waterline.
does that makes sense?
I can back roll well on the way out to sea and front roll well on the way back in because both involve the same rotation, not because I am goofy or regular.
I can ride toeside all day relaxed natural footed but bloody hopeless goofy. It's all about practice, practice and then a little bit of practice just for good measure. Can you right with both hands? You need to retrain the brain.
That's why in competition you get extra marks for being able to pull a trick on both tacks - everyone has a prefered side.
