GO Evan!!! jumping manta's i bet with a kite loop or two!!!!!! hope or having fun? the bread at woolies have gone to ****!!!! we are missing you
i think that will have to be my new avatar, the manta 1 not the gangsta sossage 1
thanks jen, mike, dave, castle crew and lagoon crew had the time of my life. kitesurfing with the manta rays over the coral in crystal clear water was such a great feeling of freedom its undescribable
when i first saw the rays i freaked out because all i could see was massive dark shadows in front of me and their wingtips sticking out of the water looked like shark fins. i had a pentax w60 takeing photos every 10 seconds and wanted a photo with my manta friends so i kited with them for about 10 minutes and boosted over them a couple of times. they were beautiful to watch when i was floating 15 foot above them and wondering at the time do manta rays have barbs
back on the sunney coast now and theirs no wind, its cold and im all kited out for a while anyway
cant wait for next year.
Had the pleasure of swimming a matter of metres from 3 or 4 huge mantas (maybe not quite as big as in the pic) up north many years ago.
Glide, glide, glide, one slow gentle flap of the wings and woooosh 30m away!
Bloody amazingly graceful creatures.
Saw these pics and was immediately jealous! Wish I'd managed to make it back this year but alas... Third trip is definitely on the cards for 2010. Hey Jen & Mike. Hope you guys are having a blast. Woop!
Hey Evan, that photo is amazing!! we are off to cocos in june and was keen to set up our camera in a similar postion as yours. Any tips on keeping the angle correct so it stays pointing at you and not sliding around.
Any help would be great.
Cheers

it can be hard to get the velcro straps tight enough but if you find its slipping you can pump the kite up just a little bit under what you normaly pump it up to then attach the velcro straps and give her a couple more pumps to tighten the straps. the angle might be different depending on what model and size kite your flying. youll just have to give it a fly and adjust the angle to your kite. im also useing 20m lines so the camera is abit closer and i dont use zoom but if your flying on 25m lines you might want to zoom in just a little bit. make sure you dont crash the kite into the water while shooting because once the camera gets wet the lense fogs up a little bit and you could miss a wicked shot. hopefully i c ya there, youll love cocos, i had the time of my life only problem is im suffering from withdrawal symptoms and cant wait till next winter lol![]()
