After completing a (great) down winder and lugging our gear off the beach, we met the wife of one of the other kiters that had been doing the down winder but was continuing on to the next stopping point.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries she inquired if we had seen her hubby, and we informed her that he had continued on down the coast. Without hesitation and with a big smile she said how she would drive on down and pick him up.
After she had departed, one of the guys commented on her great supportive attitude, and wondered where he might get one of those. Once packed up and having a beer in a nearby cafe/bar the discussion progressed along the line of developing an award for recognition of the support that Wives & Girlfriends (WAGs) contribute to aiding their (dedicated) kiter partners get out there and do it.
As the Brownlow Medal has just been awarded, it was considered that a similar theme could be adopted with points 1 to 3 for great performances/support.
Backed up with dialogue of events to justify the nomination and the allocated points.
It would also be great to hear of the positive support for the sport.
The final count and award " KITE WIFE of the YEAR" could be announced at an annual titles event through out the year.![]()
So lets hear it.......
A good mates girlfriend is always happy to drop us somewhere to start a downwinder or pick us up after one...but the best was after a very cold winter downwinder we came in to find her waiting with a thermos full of coffee and cinnamon donuts for us all- legend.
Sweeeeeeeet
I want one of those ![]()
All I'm getting is left overs;
Either too fat or too retarded.
If there is a fat and retarded chick in Perth, there is more than 90% chance that I've been with her.
Every now and then I pickup a decent chick but all they are after is a one night stand! (sounds good at the start but when I'm reading these stories about kite wife I realize that I'm missing something)
My wife pumps my kite up while I run my lines, launches me, and then sticks around to take photos knee deep in water. The photos aren't that good ...but neither is my kiting.
haha I met my wife when she was managing the best kite centre in egypt...anyone whants to compete with that :)....oh....and she kites hahahaha...

After busting up my foot in a bad landing with three months off work on crutches, my loving wife looked after my every need without complaint, except when I finally got back on the water at 9 months post accident - then I got the head shaking and the "You're crazy" look.
My Missus surprised me today with two brand new octanes![]()

just kidding!! I just wanted to show off my new kites![]()
So you went for the octanes, Milko... let me know how they go in the surf, mate. I just got my missus a 7m Eclipse Nano and it is awesome in the surf. ![]()
I'm the kite husband of the year, mate. I carry her gear, unpack for her, set up her lines, pump up her kite, launch it on her behalf and kitesurf for her! The feeling of doing something good for somebody else... what can I say; there ain't nothing quite like it, mate! ![]()
My good lady should get the prize! She packs the car with kites, lunch and post kiting beers, takes me to the beach, pumps up the kites, runs the lines, launches herself and then proceeds to give me a kiting lesson in getting hugh air. Kites till dark, chats with the boys about the session while the beers are demolished, then drives me home and cooks a better feed than any restaurant can give me, takes me to bed and gives me a good nights sleep. She has to be the winner. Well she sure is with me anyway.
Steve.
aren't we forgetting another important lady in our lives?? my mum is an absolute champ and there is no-one like her. i shredded my kite down at leighton on some freshly exposed rocks a couple of weeks back. i was telling mum about it and asked to borrow the old sewing machine. she said to bring it round and we'll get it fixed in no-time. ......anyways cutting to the chase got round there after a big day at work, she had cooked an awesome meal had the sewing machine setup and ready to go. she told me to leave it with her and come pick it up in a couple of days....pick it up saturday before i head down to margs for the longy......now that's a lady!!
