Get it all the time. Rest, stretching and a visit to my physio helps out.

What kite ar u flying? I swapped to one with less bar pressure.

I've had tennis elbow years ago. On the outside of the elbow joint
I have kiters elbow in both elbows. It is on the inside of the joint.
Cause RSI overuse.
I use a neoprene pressure wrap I got from Chemist. Helps a bit but rest is the best but does not cure.

Have it too, Just went to a physio, he found it was my back and shoulder muscles that were too tight, causing the prob.

You can take anti inflams, ice, rest etc but worth finding what's causing it.

My physio said it was from wanking too much. Then I went to a real doctor.

I had it in my right, then left elbow a few years back.....def get a kite that is light on the bar. The stretch and strap shown in the link above helped me get rid of it but each case may be different. Unfortunately it does take time and some resting, avoid getting the quarterzone injection if possible.

Good luck

normally caused by holding the bar too tight - try loosing ur grip on the bar or only using one hand to give the other arm a rest.

I had it in both arms you can spend money on a physios etc, I have had the blood injection which is where they take your own blood out and inject it on the sore point of your injury, I had a slight tear in mine and the blood is injected back into the tear and body heals its self. The best $200 BUCKS I spent take 6 weeks but definitely works ,Ive had pain for over a year and couldn't lift a coffee cup ,im on the tools everyday and kite so rest isn't an option highly recommend it only takes 15min

Down winders with a drifting kite will give almost no pressure on your elbows mine just love those sessions. Ice and stretching 2. At least the pain is only after the session.

I have had it for 12 months now and have just about got rid off it, but being a sparky does not help so it has been a slow recovery.
Ice is great
Nitro patches , but these will give you headaches but speeds up the healing process.
Stretching exercises to start with.
Once pain starts to go away begin exercises to re build strength.
Purchase a tens machine that will stimulate the tendon with electrical pulses.
Finally buy a kite with low bar pressure.

I can tell you exactly what will fix this issue - the right length chicken loop!

I used to have bad Tennis elbow from kiting a lot, but as soon as I got a Large chicken loop and trimmed my kite correctly the problem disappeared.

What you want is a loop that is big enough that your arms are almost fully extended when the bar is at full power and you kite is down low to the water. In this way you change your technique from pulling your elbows in and out, to a combination of subtle elbow, shoulder and hip movement to work the kite when you are getting going... I promise if you do this correctly your Tennis elbow will probably disappear completely.

p.s.
I have one even worse elbow now after fracturing both bones inside the joint after a heavy impact and still I get no pain from flying my kite a lot in this manner.

I tend to get tennis elbow if I kite for two days in a row. This has only occured since I started using direct feel C kites.

I found kites with a hard bar pressure and aggressive riding will set the pain on early.

Angus, what type of kite are you riding?

Try wearing a skirt and going "erggghhhhhhh" when u hit it.

Works for the tennis chicks and look how much they earn.

Yes try kites with light bar pressure.

I traded up to a 2013 c4 which had markedly increased bar pressure. Felt the kiters elbow coming back almost instantly.

swapped out for a 2012 c4 with heaps less bar pressure and sweeeeeet no sore elbow for this white man. ........ .. . . . . .... . .. . .

You are kidding right???
The 2013 actually has less bar pressure in my opinion (even though I think it is almost un-noticeable)... It certainly wouldn't make much difference to your elbows that's for sure.
Changing your technique and bar setup would have almost certainly eliminated the problem all-together and saved you time and money.

Anyone else reading this thread I suggest you give what I said in the above post a try, you don't need to waste money swapping kites. I don't think it matters how much "bar-pressure" the kite has because you are still going to be repetitively moving in the same manner, which in the end is the underlying issue here. To fix the problem properly you need to fix your technique and setup.

Disagree rowdy 2013 is higher. Markedly so..but not that high anyway in my opinion.

But totally agree on your technique description. It's also also proper edging. great description by the way. When depower wasn't around or decent depower you learnt this.

best advice i got was change yr grip (not so it feels like someone else) as in you dont always need to have yr bar in a death grip. Conciously when possible loosen yr grip and ride her with one finger or two and so on, just differently to the way you curently do

The elbow issues I have is actually golfers elbow. it hurts on the outside of the elbow. not the inside like tennis elbow. For me it becomes a problem if i have a load on a straight elbow. So... If I set up like you suggest my and run the load through a constantly straight arm them i'll get an increase in pain rather than a decrease.

Any way i'm an active flyer on my kites so i don't park with my arm straight for long anyway. Yes 2013 c4 is markedly increased bar pressure. particularaly when turning it. Since i constantly fly my kites for me the 2013 c4 bar pressure was a deal breaker. I also fly one handed alot to...... high bar pressure is a pain in the arrrse.... well elbow!

but i'm grinning again because all my kites are sweet now as far as bar pressure goes.....

I have had a sore left elbow for a while, diagnosed as over use - not classic tennis elbow but close to it. It is sore on the outside of the elbow and where muscles attach.

Acupuncture has helped, as has using a tennis elbow compression strap (reduces the effect of muscles aggravating the condition).

I think mine was caused by using the left hand exclusively while riding toeside, so now I am jybing and riding heelside on right tacks, as well as reducing the left hand grip and usage of the bar. That has helped.

The doctor I just saw said loading the arm stretched out would aggravate the condition and that keeping the elbow flexed should reduce the stress (opposite to advice from Sir Rowdy). Get a medical opinion (Sports Medicine doctor and/or Physio) and check out what works for you.

Rest is the only real long term cure I think.

Sounds painful... Good to hear you sorted it out though. I think technique is the first thing you should try and change when something is getting sore, but equipment can also make a difference.

I still don't think the 2013 had more BP for me but then again it could be due to the settings I use and the way I fly it. I still think 012-013 are pretty close to the same.

Yep got it bad in my leading hand from unhooking and holding the bar in my left hand, at the moment its not to painful, however when you extend the arm it clicks...any suggestions from anyone experiencing the similar problems. Always clicks during push ups or bench press...

Thanks to one and all great info. I fly griffins TRX kites, have been looking at technique like using my left arm mostly. It's on the inside of my arm. Just getting into the weight excercises. It's not so bad I can't kite which means I have not tried resting.

Met an American sports scientist few years back, and mentioned about similar problem... said to use a thick elastic band around the fingers (not thumb), and focus on them whilst spreading them apart against the elastic, slow close and repeat as often as comfortable, repeat exercise daily, strengthens tendons in elbow... never had pain in elbow since, cheers

I've had the same painful issue before, and for me it the solution was rest, stretching, and an electro-therapy machine like the Physios use (You can buy them for your home as well). The adhesive pads from the electro-therapy machine can be put in just the right place so that the electric current passes directly through the problem area, which gets the blood circulating.
At that time I also had kites with heavy bar pressure which definitely contributed to the problem. No issues since moving onto kites with light bar pressure.

Tennis elbow is the outside of the elbow/ golfers elbow is the inside

For tennis stretch the wrist down so fingers are pointing towards the ground For golfers stretch wrist up.
I had the golfers elbow for 3 years doc said i would have it for life due to the weakening from kiting , then I had the cortisone jab, instant relief . Combined with these stretches I'm cured
