We want to travel with our gear over Xmas/NY and were wondering whether we shouldn't insure it againsts theft, loss, damage when handled at the airport. (As we all know our beloved kites and boards are not exactly cheap.) Has anyone taken out such an insurace? Any recommendations or experience with it?
Within Australia, WA actually, but was hoping to get some sort of insurance that covers the gear in the car as well.
In case anyone is interested, we've just managed to get our kite gear onto our NRMA home insurance as 'specified portables'. It took a few calls as the first call centre person classified it as arial device, but once we spoke to someone who understood that it was sporting equipment it all worked out. We are quite chuffed now, considering we're off to WA.![]()
I lost all my kite gear from the BA leaving it at Heathrow, Finally got it back 1 week later but had a nightmare with my travel insurance and the airline whilst I thought that it was lost forever! Travel insurance didn't cove it because it was to expensive, check your policy.
The other thing that happend was the airline said that it was on the next flight and they would send it in a taxi, well that turned out to be a lie, I need to report it at the airport and ask for compensation right there and then, luckily I didn't need it for the 1st week and I was staying in the same spot!
