Hi all, I just starting taking kite surfing pics at the beaches n local comps but am finding that the glare and reflection on the water after about 2pm almost silhouette's the surfer. Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this eg a polaroid filter, angles on the camera when taking pics or otherwise?
Solution:
Move to the east coast. The light will be behind you in the afternoon. Downside being you won't have the epic WA summer.
now now, don't be so negative. you will get many nature shots
and still water sunsets ect.just looking for a positive 
Classic dilemma........ 
Perhaps a huge lens so that you can zoom right in on the subject on the water and therefore cut out the black glare from the sun over the horizon?
Or did you try changing the angle of shot so you are looking down from height or walk up the beach to take the shot so that your camera lens isn't facing straight into the sun?(need a massive lens for that to compensate for moving further up the beach for that I think). I do this for landscape to help with the glare but don't know if it will work for surf shots.
Im not sure if there is a solution??? Need a photography expert to help with this one.
You need to get yourself a polarising filter - that will at least help cut the reflection and glare. As far as angles, move down the beach a bit so you're not shooting into the sun/glare - that's about the best you can do, but you might find yourself needing a longer lens. If they are kiting close enough, you can use a flash to fill in the subject.

I have been playing around with a dicapac so I can be in the water with my camera and get different shots....for about $120 it's a cheap way to improve your angle and shoot with the sun behind you.
Polarising filter only works to a certain extent in my attempts- nicer sometimes to embrace the silhouetted kiter shots if your can get some crisp ones.
PS- listen to anything gkram has to say, his photos are some of the best I have seen- there was an amazing spread of some of his favourites in kbm a few issues back

If you can't change your angle, zoom in, polarise or get closer to the action to fill out the viewfinder, try spot metering off the rider to expose them, the wave and board properly. The sky will burn out but at least the subject will be exposed properly.
