Had a great session at Dolls today. Only trouble was every 20m a fisho had set up his rod. At least 10 of them on the beach.
How do you discourage them from setting up at our prime kiting locations, without causing an unpleasant incident?
Got hooked by a fishing boat a few years ago in a sou-easter at sans souci. I was heading back into the beach about 50 metres downwind of the boat, didn't realize he was trawling. Anyhow the hook snagged my harness and as I removed it I hooked my finger. The boat was still moving away from me and I was yelling at them to stop so I could unhook my finger - what I nightmare, was a few months before I could eat fish and chips again!
I missed dolls today because the girlfriend 'needed' to hang out and go shopping. I'm started to get pissed off that she's asking the question 'do you love kitesurfing more than me'... I just don't know how to answer it.
Were they dippin their rods at 1st groyne or wha?
p.s. Wow robbo.. crazy.. adds a whole new meaning to the kiting term unhooking
I am sure the fishos would have been saying the same thing: damn kitesurfers getting in the way.. if only they would 'F' off.. except they realise that you both have the same rights.
Seems like something we have to deal with not complain about, it is a public place right?
The government has been setting up a network of 'fisherman free zones' so kitesurfers can enjoy our great sport without fear of becoming the catch of the day.
Turns out it's good for the fish too, you'd think more fish would mean happy fishermen.....

there was a guy who setuo his rod in the middle of the main groin yesterday at botany too.... just stuoid to goto a crowded area where ppl r in the water and throw a line in, within rights or not...
those guys who are soaking bait at a spot where there is any watercraft traffic are not fishermen, they are dudes who have gone to a shop and bought fishing rods.
fishermen fish where there is no disturbance to the water as this scares away the fish.
Ah so that's what that little knife blade thingy is for in my harness...?![]()
Seriously though... Go and have a word, talk some sense into him, ask him to move somewhere where he won't risk hooking another human being. If he doesn't move, fly your kite over his head a few times lol [}:)]
Whose there first on that day? the fisherman or you?.
I say posessopm is 9/10ths of the law. If he's there fishing first then its your job to stay away from his fishing spot.
If your there first then its he can politely get the F$$K out.
I'd go and talk to the guy and ask him to move down the beach if your at the beach first. He's probably completly unaware of the room you need.
ps anyone fishing near to humans in the water is a bit of an idiot.
I've lost count of the number of run-ins I've had with local fisho's on the pier. On a few occasions they've actually tried to cast and hook me, I have a couple of scars as evidence. Even if I'm there first they still get abusive. Problem is, you can't argue as they can kick up a fuss with the council, sucks.
